What are the torque specs for the head bolts on my 2001 V92C?


10mm nuts are 40 foot pounds. 8mm nuts are 18 foot pounds. You need to torque all the nuts to 10 foot pounds to start, then torque the 10mm nuts to 20 foot pounds, then 30 foot pounds, and then 40 foot pounds. Retorque all the 10 mm nuts to 40 foot pounds and then retorque the 8mm nuts to 18 foot pounds. Torque the bolts in a criss-cross pattern.

Should there be a coverplate between the peddle arm and the crank bearing.(left side)


According to a simple web search the bike has Shimano M442 cranks which one link says are square-tapered. You can live without a dust cap if that is all that's missing but it should look like whatever is on the right side unless someone has been changing things.

If THAT bolt is missing don't ride the bike until it is replaced and properly tightened. In fact, get it evaluated by a bicycle shop becaus e a crank ridden without the bolt will eventuall loosen enough to wear out the surfaces that mate it to the bottom bracket.

Tighten the 8mm threaded bolts with the 12' or 13mm head bolts, or nuts, between 12 and 16 foot pounds, and the 6 mm bolts with the 10 mm head 6 to 8 foot pounds

How to remove the crank set and install it


There are 3 bolts to remove on the left crank (side without the gears): 1 - the main large cap in the center of the arm (this requires a special round tool supplied by shimano with the cranks, or your local shop can sell you one), and 2 bolts holding the arm in place. Remove all three completely. If the arm still will not come off easily, then take a large screwdriver and work in between the bearings and the crank arm and gently pry off. The trick is too only move a little then go to another section and move another small amount. until the crank arm wants to loosen. Once you pull the left side arm off, the right side will pull out of the bottom bracket, Just pull straight out. the BB spindle is attached to the right side crank arm. To install reverse the instructions. Works the same on Shimano cranksets of this type.

Removal sequence: Front 3 7 11 13 10 6 2 1 5 9 14 12 8 4

***CAUTION*** The above sequence must be followed during removal as to avoid warpage of the cylinder head unit

camshaft sprocket bolt torque is 27 ft lbs. the camshaft bearing bolts torque is 9 ft lbs.tighten each bearing cap gradually to prevent binding.your rocker arm bolts torque 6mm bolts to 9 ft lbs and the 8mm bolts to 16 ft lbs.

There are many possible causes for the noise you're hearing, but the most common source of creaks is loose crank arms.

You might be able to eliminate the sound by tightening the crank arms on the bottom bracket spindle. However, I would recommend removing both crank arms from the spindle and reinstalling them after lubricating the surfaces where the spindle and crank arm meet as well as the crank arm bolts. Use a high quality grease (not oil, such as Triflow) or anti-seize compound.

Torque the crank arm bolts to the factory spec. Crank arms bolts can take a lot of torque -- about 300 ft/lbs. Most people don't have a torque wrench, so you can "guesstimate" this by applying about 50 lbs of force on the end of a 6" long wrench.

Other possibilities are loose chainrings (check each bolt where they are attached to the crank), pedals (lubricate/service bearings), bottom bracket (check it is properly torqued), chain (look for tight links), derailleur idler gear, crack in frame.

The 8mm head bolts are torqued at 19 - 21 ft/lbs.
any smaller 6mm bolts are torqued to only 6 ft/lbs
like those on the lower cylinder.

Torque settings for the head bolts on a 1984 xc 125 husky


The stud is 8mm with 1.25 thread. the torque, according to the service manual, is 19.6 to 21.6 Nm or 2.0 to 2.2 Kgm or 14.5 to 15.9 lb/ft.. It all depends on your favorite language.

Rockerarm assembly & torque specs


8mm bolts are 16 ft-lb, 6mm bolts are 9 ft-lb. Tighten them a couple turns at a time. A service manual will have a diagram for proper tightening sequence.
