Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer

1 Answer

I was getting some unwanted ink markings on the sides of my documents. The toner seems fine. I happened to have a new drum and the drum light had been blinking, so I installed the new drum with the old toner. This only made the problem worse! Now I have too much ink all over the page. Any ideas what is wrong?

The problem your having is most likely the drum or the fuser. First, separate the two and clean any dirt you find, On the drum, there is a purple tab that moves left and right, do that a couple times, it will clean the wires. put it back together and do a test print. if you see the same lines with your old and new drum, then your fuser will need to be replaced.

When making copies af a document a black line is showing on the bottom of the copied page. How can we fix it.

Clean the document laying flat glass with micro fiber cloth.

Pull out the toner/drum assrmbly and clean the drum with same cloth. Turn the drum using black circular dial on the side and clean it. Do not touch the drum. Also, change the toner cartridge if you have not for long time. This mostly happens when the cartridge is about to run out of toner ink powder.

hope this helps.

Laser printers work by creating latent images on a rotating, light-sensitive drum and then attracting toner to exposed points on that drum. If any point on the drum’s light-sensitive surface is damaged, you may notice that toner is always attracted to that point, thereby transferring to the final page and appearing as a repeating mark. Because the drum is a cylinder, such marks will appear at equal distances down the page, corresponding to each rotation of the drum (maybe every two inches, for example).

The only solution to this problem is to replace the drum. For most low-cost home printers, the drum is part of the toner assembly and is automatically replaced each time you install a new toner cartridge (which explains part of the cartridge’s high cost). More industrial-strength laser printers place the drum on a separate EP (electrophotographic) “engine” that can be replaced in just a few easy steps. Check your printer’s documentation and replace the appropriate assembly (or have someone do it for you), and the repeating marks should go away.

I'm getting white streaks (weak printing) on my ricoh c420dn. It happens only with yellow and cyan colors as you can see in my orkut (public) profile...

Hello

There are many possible causes. You'll have to do a bit of detective work to find your particular problem. you're either getting unwanted toner, or the printing process is being interrupted.

The photosensitive drum can get a mark or a spot or even a damaged area. This usually presents as a regular area which repeats, going down the print, rather than a streak It may be possible to clean the drum with a soft tissue -- perhaps with the addition of a little Isopropyl alcohol. If you have a replacement drum, try that. In most cases the drum is part of the cartridge, but not always.
Loose toner in the system.

If your drum is leaking, or you've spilled some toner inside the printer (perhaps after shaking the cartridge to get more life out of it) the excess toner may cling to the paper in streaks and get fused onto it. The cure is a good vacuum clean of the insides.

Sometimes a small corner of a sheet of paper (or similar) can get caught in the workings of the printer, This can obscure part of the optical (especially with LED printers) and cause a blank streak in the printing. Dust and toner on the LED head can cause similar problems and fuzzy printing. Tissue and alcohol again!

I installed a new imaging drum on 09-15-2010 on my HP Color LaserJet 4550. The printer indicates the drum has a 92% of its life remaining. Yesterday a thin white vertical line, about 2" in from the left...

Hi... cant I suggest something about your drum installation, You may have to take off your drum and clean it with a toner remover and also check your brush-line cleaner, for excess toner on the drum and the carrier because if you have exessive toner on the drum it will make unwanted drawing and line on the paper... only toner remover because if you take something else you will damage for sure your drum.

Light lines down middle when printing black

try to clean the class of the machine, if its still there, this means the black drum is scratched since its fine with other colors, to test it very good open the document feeder(put it up) and hit start buttom(without putting anypaper on class), black paper will come out, check if the line there, if yeah, change the black drum.
let me know wat happen Regards

Ink dots on right side of paper

Toner cartridge? So this is a laser printer? In that case I suspect it is not new? This sounds like old age on the main image drum, that will probably give the exact same mark on each page, correct?

HP LaserJet 1100A unwanted toner marks on face of print

check this link,
either fuser or print drum. to verify , start print job, open door before finnished and see if marks appear before or after fuser. Before paper gets to fuser toner ink will smudge.

It sounds like you need a new cartridge. I am not familliare with that product, but I would strongly suspect the drum or toner cartridge. They may be all one.
Often those cartridges are very low on ink and do not display a message to that effect

Have you refilled the toner cartridge or is it refill as when these toner cartridges are refilled they have a tendency to leak. I suggest to remove toner cartridge turn the machine off vacuum out the inside and replace the toner cartridge with a new original. Run 20-30 prints through to get rid of any other loose toner and then should be fine.

If printing doesn't improve then repeat process if still same problem suggest transfer roller to be changed.

Hope this helps
Thanks J
