Question about Sony VAIO VGC-RA840G PC Desktop

1 Answer

Will not boot Windows XP

My VAIO VGC-RA840G will not boot up Windows XP. This started yesterday after I was flipping some circuit breakers in the basement.

Now when I turn on power I get a choice to Start up in Safe Mode, Start up in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Start in Safe Mode wiht Network Connection (or something like this), Start with previous known good configuration or start in Normal mode.

I have tried all of these several times and none work. It just starts to try to boot up and then restarts again.

I have set recovery points on the computer but I do not have a recovery disk. In addition I do have all my personal files backed up onto a second external hard drive.

I have been to the Sony site but have been unable to make any progress

Can anyone advise me what my next step should be

Thanks in advance

When your computer is rebooting, push the F8 key. It will change your start up options and you will see disable automatic reboot on system failure. You can they see the error and continue research on the problem.

Windows xp was deleted by accident when adding a new hard drive. I reinstalled windows software but nothing is working. It says the master file is missing. What do I need to do? I had someone look at it...

Joe is right on!

I highly DOUBT if your mother board is bad! Your VAIO was working ~ the software got deleted and now it's not working...

I suspect your Windows XP and DRIVERS need to be reinstalled. I also suspect you will have no other 'hardware' problems because it seems highly unlikely both would get trashed at the same time...

ALSO... XP came in 32 Bit and 64 Bit versions... be SURE you have the correct version for your System!

I provided a link for your VAIO drivers below.

Can I Upgrade Video Cards on my computer sony VGC-RA840G ?

I can't believe this has never been answered. yes, you can. you have to make sure it is pci, and only uses one slot. I put a EVGA Geforce GT610 in mine. Not superb, but runs what I need it to. An easy installation too. Good luck!

Of The 4 Connections On The Motherboard Is A Specific Pin Connection Critical Regarding Which One The Internal Main Hardrive Connects To?

According to specifications listed on Sony Vaio Support, the Vaio VGC-RA840G desktop computer uses a SATA harddrive.

[Left-click on Marketing Specifications]

If you have four SATA headers on your motherboard, you can plug your SATA harddrive into any one of them.

The beauty of SATA is that once you plug into any SATA header, BIOS will find the harddrive. Doesn't matter which SATA connector. (Connector on a motherboard is referred to as a Header)
