Question about Meade DS-2130ATS (250 x 127mm) Telescope

1 Answer

I have a DS2000 scope mount that has a short to ground on a motor line that caused the circuit board to burn out a capacitor and who knows what else. Does anyone have a schematic for the board that I can use to test and repair it?

You will not find a schematic anywhere on the internet. You must call Meade directly at their customer service phone here:

They may furnish you with a schematic-- BUT most likely will want you to return the scope. You can also locate a local electronics technician (someone who repairs TVs or VCRs) and have them replace the capacitor.

Machine stopped working

This can be due to the fact that the program controller unit has failed within and has a short that caused the cut off in the circuit.
Remove the panel and check for short. check if any rectifier or capacitor within has shorted, normally since this panel board is epoxy filled the possibility of repair is less and must be replaced.
Also disconnect lines from the board to confirm if the motor or pump circuit is not shorted.

Trying to find out how to figure out why my fan motor doesn't work. If its grounded or a different kind of short

There will be two reason for the fan motor won't work. first of all replace the fan capcitor. In normal Ac fans there will be two windings. The starting winding and the running winding. Running winding will be driectly connected to the power trough relay switching circuit and the starting winding trough a capacitor. If the capacitor is faulty then the fan will not sart. There will be three wires from the fan, one will be common , second will goto power line and the third will go to one end of the capacitor. The other end of the capacitor will goto the power line. In some motors there will be four line. In such motors the fourth wire will be Ground (Earth) connection.
second reson will be the winding of the motor may burned. In such cases you have to replace the fan motor.

Wiring diagram worn off outdoor ac unit, capacitor burned up got replacement part fixed all burned up ends keeps shorting out, carrier model 38RE042300,capacitor that burned up35/UF motor run capacitor +-5%...

Hi, if the first 35 uf run cap shorted, you most likely have a shorted to ground compressor. This is what causes them to burn out.A 35uf, x 440 volt run cap is for the compressor only. You should or will have a smaller one for the out door fan.1 lead from the contactor feeds one side of the capacitor, energizes it. The S wire also plugs into that same terminal. Then the R or run wire from the compressor, and C will go to the other side to start it. The 2 left ove have to be commons to feed other componants, you will need to follow them to see, as I can't pull up any diagram for that model. You need to have the compressor ohmed out, or checked to see if it is shorted to ground. To do this, remove the 3 wires to the compressor terminal. Make sure the power is off! If you have a voltage tester that has the audio alert for checking fuses and so on, touch the black lead to a clean spot on the compressor of copper line, and tough each one to each terminal. If you get a beep, it is shored to ground, and you will need to replace your compressor. Do this check and let me know.

Tripped off

If circuit breaker tripped off for second times do not re-set the circuit breaker and switch ON. Theres might be short circuited in the source line of your ac. Also check the status of compressor, windings might insulation failure, capacitor or fan motor short circuited or grounded. If you don't know how to do this, pls. call qualified technician.

I took apart the vertical support arm and need to insure that I am putting it back together properly as it will not currently move vertically, horizontal is ok

Here is the manual-

If the motor does not work it can indicate-

A broken wire inside

A broken altitude motor

A broken motor control circuit board

Only the first one listed above can be fixed by you. The scope must be returned to Meade for either motor or electronic repairs.

Blown fuse on a ilpi-009 power supply

hi, i don't know the exact power board you speak of, most fuses for power supply protect ac inboard power, and backlights. if backlight inverters touch ground or ground out, this will blow fuse. otherwise, the fused circuit is used for main inboard power going to primary capacitor. take an automotive fuse holder and solder test leads long enough to work with, install 4 amp blade fuse and jumper/solder the circuit to the fuse on the board and power on the monitor. if all goes well, probably just power surge or outlet grounded. if blows fuse, check to board for obvious burns or blown capacitors. if not there, unplug backlights and power on, if still blows, check to make sure no direct conact with board and back of screen. just be thorough about looking carefully for shorts if there is one. and don't forget to replace the factory fuse on the board with the correct one after you finish repairing, don't leave that automotive fuse in. good luck.

The easiest way to be sure is to meter the cord and see if you have 5-10 ohms across the lines and infinite resistance on each to the ground prong. You are better served to use a high output voltage tester as compared to a small hand-held 9 volt meter for testing grounds. It is likley the motor is shot though and the unit will need to be replaced.

Starting Capacitor

Found this Frigidaire question posted under Whirlpool but I'll be happy to answer just the same.

The starting capacitor is connected to the line level voltage, as opposed to the high-voltage capacitor evryone warns about.

The starting cap doesn't store enough of a charge to worry about.

The main thing is to be sure the oven is disconnected from the power line. I prefer unplugging it, but some installations make that hard, so you need to turn off the breaker.

Hood fan failure can happen due to many causes:

If a cooktop light bulb blows or is removed or installed while the oven is still connected to the power line, that can damage the circuit board in the area.

The hood fan motor wiring can short.

The starting capacitor can be bad.

There may be dust, hair, debris, etc. in the bearings of the hood fan motor jamming it. The filters are supposed ot help prevent this, but things happen.

Behind the control panel on Whirlpools is a very helpful mini-manual that can help you check and diagnose quite a few problems with these.

On some brands it's located on the control circuit board, in others it's mounted on or in the hood fan assembly.

If you post your brand and model we can probably steere you better on a mini-manual and the capacitor.
