Question about VinoTemp VT-60 Wine Cooler

1 Answer

I suspect the compressor. - Fan runs. - Thermostat appears to work. - Occasional clicking from compressor, and it gets warm but does not run. Local Mr Appliance would not negotiate - estimated $560 to fix.. about the same as purchase price at Costco.

U MAY HAVE BLOWN THE COMPRESSOR RELAY DUE TO THE TRIP? U CAN REMOVE IT FROM THE COMPRESSOR AND SHAKE IT IF U DONT HAVE A METER TO TEST IT, IF IT RATTLES THEN ITS BAD? IF THERE IS A CLICKING WHEN COMPRESSOR IS TRYING TO RUN ITS BAD, OTHER WISE I WOULD SUSPECT A BAD COLD CONTROL THERMOSTAT ESPECIALLY IF UR TURNING IT FROM UNDERNEATH AND NOT JUST THE KNOB? DID U USE A SCREWDRIVER TO GET INTO THE TINY SLOT UNDER THE TIMER AND TURN IT SLOWLY TILL U HEAR A CLICK? TURN AGIN AND THE NEXT CLICK SHOULD TURN IT BACK ON U SHOULD HEAR THE COMPRESSOR AND THE FAN WORJKING

Bad run capacitor or bad compressor. If you hear an occasional click from the compressor try a new run cap and then a hard start kit. Otherwise it's more economical to purchase a new unit.

Check power to compressor through thermostat. If compressor running but not freezing, suspect refrigerant leak. If sides are warm to touch, check to see if a fan is present in the compressor compartment on the side/rear and check it's working.

If it's cutting off at too high a temperature it is a good possibility the probe is faulty. However if the compressor is not cutting off at all, suspect short of gas.

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM). Heavy frost indicates defrost problem.

Frig not cold

ok 1 problem many symptoms :)

First check if freezer is iced up... If so

1 is your freezer fan running? if not possible defective fan, check if it's wired with the defrost thermostat if it is suspect faulty defrost thermostat.

2nd does your defrost heater work? if your handy with an multimeter put it on the audible option check the defrost heater if there's sound it's good if no sound well your defrost element is fried.

3rd is your condenser clean?
if it has a fan, is it running? if not change fan and clean condenser

4th is the compressor running?

touch the discharge line (the skinny one) from the compressor it should be hot really hot if not suspect compressor has faulty relay/capacitor/overload defective.

hope that i can be of assistance

The compressor does run warm but not hot, if the freezer is not cooling then the comp is faulty, approach local repair agent for cost. Regards The Advisor Smeg Agent
