Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel after dropping it. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

I can't switch on my camera so can you tell me what i have to do please.

The manual says: if the camera does not turn on after you have inserted battery, lease check whether the battery are inserted with correct polarity (+/-)
Never use unnecessary force to put the battery in the chamber.
If you are not sure the battery is still ok, try two other batteries type AA. The camera will work with non rechargeable alkaline batteries and will work with rechargeable Ni-MH batteries.
When the battery chamber is open, please check if the metal connection point are not corroded and clean.
You still can find the manual online and the thing I describe here is on page 8

Well you mentioned that it worked fine yesterday with the battery out of the box. That should tell you that the camera and the battery are both fine. The issue is likely the charger itself. Try recharging it again, and double check that you inserted the batteries correctly, and that any switches (such as for 2 or 4 battery charge) are set in the correct position on the charger. If this doesn't work, take the charger back to the store for exchange/refund as defective.

My digicam won't start

There could be a couple of reasons why your camera would not start.

Before considering it to be defective, verify that the camera has batteries inside and that these batteries are charged. To do this:

  1. Locate and open the battery compartment.
  2. Identify the type of batteries needed and purchase new ones OR
  3. Recharge the batteries with the recharger provided.
  4. Place the new/charged batteries inside, closing the battery compartment.
  5. Try to turn on the camera.
If the camera still doesn't work after verifying that the batteries are in order, remove the memory card and any other accessories that the camera may have and try turning it on again.

If still the camera won't turn on, one last step can be performed if and only if your camera uses standard batteries (AA or AAA). If this step is performed incorrectly, you could short circuit the batteries, which would discharge them. This procedure will not damage the camera if performed correctly. Please pay attention and do exactly as explained:
  1. Locate and open the battery compartment.
  2. Remove the batteries.
  3. Place the batteries back inside in the opposite direction than the one indicated. If the position indicated is for the positive end first, place the battery with the negative end first. Do this process for all the batteries.
  4. Close the battery compartment.
  5. Attempt to turn on the camera. It will not turn on, but this step is necessary nonetheless.
  6. Open the battery compartment.
  7. Remove the batteries.
  8. Place the batteries in the correct position according to the indication.
  9. Close the battery compartment.
  10. Attempt to turn on the camera.
If the camera still does not work, it is likely that it is defective. At this point you should take the camera to an authorized service center.

My friend left her nearly new Samsung s1070 camera at my house in working condition. Now she has asked for it back and for some reason it just wont turn on. It hasn't been used since I've had it (so I cant...

Sitting for that long may have resulted in a corrosion buildup on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the inside contacts with a clean dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper). Remove any specks of corrosion that may have fallen into the battery compartment during the cleaning, then clean and reinsert the batteries.

Also, make sure that the rechargeable batteries that you put in are the correct type. Ni Cd batteries will not work properly if the camera calls for Ni-MH.

This clear about 90% of power-up problems, and I hope it works for you.

Your camera is still under warranty. Recommend letting Canon try to correct this, instead of trying to fix this yourself.

Here's the support page for your camera:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=14905

Or you can call them directly at 1 (800) 828-4040.

Camera won't respond

I just fixed it!, you need to use rechargable batteries, i had it set on rechargable and when i put alkalines in it it made that noise, but when i put rechargables back in it and gave it a slight pat against my hand to make sure nothing was loose inside it came back on and works fine!

Camer won't turn on.

I had the same problem and realised the camera is sensitive to the type of batteries you use.  I had put in non rechargable batteries.  Some brands seem to work and some don't, but rechargables are best, particularly the original sony batteries .  Try changing the batteries.
