Question about Craftsman 10" Table Saw

1 Answer

I have a Contractor's Craftsman 10 " table saw, #113.29884, that will not tilt to a true 45.degrees. It starts to bind up at about 43 degrees and refuses further tilt just shy of true 45 degrees. Thus four miters, when making a box, leave an unacceptac\le gap. Is there a way to calibrate the tilt mechanism to correct this problem? Gene Coumbe

Yes there is, first I would unplug the tool and tilt on its back and thoroughly try and clean the debris from the undercarriage. Then go to managemyhome.com and download a manual for this, I was looking at page 55 and it talks about how to reset the saw to make square cuts. Let me know if you need more assistance

Bosch Glide Miter Saw get stuck at 45 degree bevel to the left

Adjusting the miter angle involves two cast surfaces sliding against each other. If those surfaces have some irregularities, high spots on the two surfaces will bind against each other. You may have to disassemble the rotating table from the base and do some filing or grinding.

The owner of Inline Industries (he invented the PALS product that lets you get a precision alignment on a contractor saw) has a video that shows how to add grease fittings that will make blade raising, lowering and tilting very easy. Check him out. He sent me the video when I bought the PALS.

I have a 1/16" tilt

Your question is not very clear. Here are several answers.
By tilt you may be speaking of bevel adjustment 0 - 45 Some saws have hidden under the table or obvious positive bevel stops or screws in the table top for 90 and 45 degree. Adjust them.
You may have a bent or warped blade causing the "tilt."
Thin blades may be stiffened with blade stabilizing washers $14
With the saw unplugged remove the blade. Grab the threaded arbor shaft and pull it up and down. Next push the shaft straight in and out. If there is wiggle the bearings are worn and may need replacing.

I just bought this table saw and when i tilt the blade to 45 deg. the blade rubs on the blade insert. also when i put it together it didnt come with a riving knife and hardware.

I ran into that kind of problem with my Craftsman 10 table saw. I (an usual) over analyzed the problem and looked at moving the entire motor assembly from left to right slightly. In the end, I found that that the blade stablizer plates I used on the left and right of the blade, moved the blade that little bit needed to make the blade tips make contact. I removed the two stablizer plates, reinstalled the blade with the normal to flat washers and gave it a try. The blade now cleared the insert when pushed all the way to 45 degrees.

You might want to look to make sure there are no extra washers/spacers on the arbor that might move the blade slightly left or right from its normal position.

I'm missing a ''tilt'' set screw on my Craftsman 10 inch table saw

I couldn't find that model Sears saw to confirm, but if yours is like mine (113.298720), then the handle on the right causes the saw trunion to swivel left and right. And there is a locking hex-head bolt on the front of the saw up close to the underside of the table. This bolt locks the trunion in place keeping it from swivelling.
Take a look at the following diagram http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/P0908018-00004.png part 22 is the shaft that tilts the blade Part 30 is the bolt that locks it in place part 29 is the handle part 28 is the spring that holds the handle on the locking bolt

45 degree tilting problem

You have set screws in the table top, they stop the trunnions from tilting at a certain point, just blow out the dust and get a wrench in there and turn it up or down, they stop tilt both directions.

I can't tell you what the value is but I can share a tip I use whenever buying a used saw.

With the saw in the 90 degree position (Straight up) run a board all the way through the board. Then flip one half of the board upside down and place the two cuts together. If the blade is true the two halves should line up perfectly. If they don't that means the blade is out of square. While re squaring a saw is fairly easy, I would wonder why the blade was off and how often that would happen and therefore would likely not buy the saw.

Of a side note, Craftsman does make a great saw and they are fairly easy to work on and find parts for.

Good Luck

The Blade Arbor is held to the bottom of the table with mounting screws and stop/adjusting screws. Loosen the mounting screw and adjust the stop screws to make Blade true with miter slot.
