You have 7 wires coming out of the wall but you don't say where they go. Only someone with the knowledge and equipment could trace these wires. If it were me I would use the wires that came with the new opener and follow the directions exactly.

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

hi trace. yes. these keypads take a 4 digit code. To insert your own code get a step ladder and a helper. while one of you climbs the ladder to push the code set button on the back side of the motor, where the wires connect, the other will input 4 numbers of your choice followed by the enter button. thats it. joe

The opener actually needs 6 wires. They gave you 4. It depends on where the wires end as to what you can do. A good imagination will help. I personally would install it with the wires furnished with the opener.

Garage door opens whenever it wants to

In most cases, when a garage door opens or closes by itself, or when you find your door open, up returning home, the problem is due to a short somewhere. This short is most likely to be in one of two places: either in one of your transmitters or in the wall button or its wiring.

When there is a short in your garage door transmitter, you will often find the garage door is up upon returning home, even though you know you closed the door when you left the house. A short in your transmitter causes ta continuous signal to be sent. As you are pulling out of the driveway the garage door closes fully and appears to stop, but as the carriage and arm run past the down limit and hits the header bracket it reverses and the door begins to open, just as you start driving off down the road. You come home to find the garage door is up, as if someone else had opened your door. The best thing to do to troubleshoot the garage door problem is remove the batteries from your transmitters and try operating the door from the wall button. If the problem is intermittent, you may want to do this for a day or two to eliminate the transmitters as the culprit.

If the problem persists, try removing the wall button wire at the motor head to ensure it is not a short in the wire to the button, then try operating the garage door with the transmitters only. If it stops the problem, replace the wires and test the wall button which can also go bad. It is a process of elimination.

There are no fuses in the opener. Pull the logic board (the end where all the white wires go) and check for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit board. This is not uncommon where there are electrical storms.

Look at the rear of your opener and see what color wires are connected to terminals 1 and 2. These will be the two wires you should connect to the wall button.

We are trying to install a garage door opener and our home is pre-wired with cat5e cable and not sure what colors to hook up

I like to use the blue wire and the blue/white wire for one side - blue/white connected to wire with black trace>

Do the same with red and red/white on the other side.

Use green for the wall control.

Hope this helps
