Is the condenser fan running and the condenser clean? The condenser is the black coil-thing at the very bottom of your fridge, right above the floor (unless your refrigerator cools its condenser by natural-convection, in which case, the condenser would be mounted on the back of the refrigerator cabinet and you wouldn’t have a condenser fan). If the condenser fan isn’t running or the condenser is matted up with dirt, etc, then that could cause cooling problems resulting in a warm freezer.

Too little frost or abnormal defrosting means either a freon leak or a worn compressor.

In any case, as fixum1 said, its best you call for a qualified repair man to do the job.

Hope that helps!

I have an active smart fridge freezer. The freezer seems ok but the fridge has stopped working but it doesent get cold. how can it be fixed. It is only 18 months old.

Check fan in the freezer
Also check auto defrost (ice on the freezer coils anot allowing
air to the fridge.)
If so go to appliance parts store to learn the parts to fix auto defrost.
If this was helpful please rate me.

Fridge part now working

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

What your describing is a result of either an automatic defrosting problem or an Air Damper problem.

Here is what you can do to determine if it is a defrost issue or an Air Damper issue.

1. Unplug the unit
2. Empty the freezer section ONLY contents
3. Place a fan blowing into the freezer section for a little over 2 hours. NOTE: This will make a water mess so be prepared.
4. After the manual defrosting session with the fan re-load the freezer contents and plug the unit back in.
5. Check food section temps in about 4 hours.
NORMAL temps you have an automatic defrost problem
WARM temps you have an Air Damper Problem.

Either of the above will require further troubleshooting or service. At least you will know where to start or... what to tell a service person.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Check the back wall of the freezer compartment for ice buildup. Sounds like you have a defrost issue.

GE Refrigerator Freezer warm

the frost on the back wall of the freezer is the clue to the problem. it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
