Question about Kenmore 65924 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

The dryer heats, but it takes a long time to dry towels. I have completely cleaned the vent system all the way to the roof, replaced the heating element, thermastat and hi-temp cut out. I used a ohm meter on the heat selection switch to check various positionns. Hi output is suspect the wiring diagram states that to max temp a minimum of 10K ohms is required. There are two external resistors wired in series on the connector to the switch which have a value of 5.1K and 910 Ohm. I was wondering if the selector switch is supposed to have a internal 5K resistance in the max heat position.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Dryer not heating enought

The first thing you need to do is make sure your dryer vent hose is clean. An easy test (if you have a really long dryer vent run) is to unhook your dryer vent hose from the back of the dryer and just dry a load of towels like you normally would. If your towels are nice and dry when the cycle is complete, then you know your dryer hose vent is clogged somewhere down the line.

My dryer is taking way to much time to dry a basic load

The problem is either a blocked lint filter or a restricted vent system if the dryer heats up normally or a faulty cycling thermostat if the dryer heats up erratically. Check and make sure the lint filter is clear. You may need to have a contractor have the vent system checked and cleaned as it is necessary to clean them at least once year or every six months if 4 to 5 loads are done everyday. Restricted vent system impedes the airflow and therefore the disposing of the steam it carries. This consequently results in the longer drying time.

Replace the cycling thermostat if the dryer is heating up erratically or does not heat up sufficiently.

Takes three cycles to dry towels; i checked the venting but it goes up to roof so how do know if its blocked further up? My house is 5yrs old

usually long dry times is a restricted vent.. most vent are a straight shot out the back with longer vents excess buildup is common... unplug the vent in the back to the dryer and run a load if it heats quicker then u know ur venting is clogged up... hope this helps

Dryer is taking too long to dry clothes, even on AccuDry setting for Jeans/towels - it still is heating, just not heating enought to dry clothes, I have been doing two cycles at least for a very small...

Your house vent is restricted causing the long time to dry complaint.
Please clean the entire vent to the outside.
Also make sure the vent behind the dryer does not get smashed when the dryer is pushed back to the wall.

Whirlpool dryer....heats

You could have heating element going bad, or a plugged dryer vent. Start with dryer vent, make sure all lint is out of it, all the way through it, even if it goes to the roof, or out the wall. Also vacuum out back of dryer and inside vent tube. This should help with problem. If not then replace heating element its getting weak.

LGE59777S Not drying

There is a little sensor that tells the dryer when to heat and when not to heat. that sensor is bad. If you take the back of the dryer off you will see it. It is about the size of a half dollar and has 2 wires that plug into it. While you have it apart make sure that the dryer vent on the back of the dryer is not plugged with lint. Major cause for fires in dryers.

Clothes don't dry fully on automatic cycle with "normal" selected.

there may be a fault on the low heat setting, check the element works on both settings, otherwise nothing to suggest, apart from are you overloading it with too many items?
