Tappan Convectionaire stove with built in microwave. Purchased in 1985. This is the 4th time the handle on the microwave door has broken off. We were able to replace it in the past, but I cannot find it listed anywhere. The model # is 76-4932-23. The serial # is 10248 8536 6505. Any chance of replacing it with something? We cannot use the microwave without a handle. Have replaced it in the past.

I had very old parts for the tappan units but they have been out of circulation for quite some time. Unless this is a new tappan that I am not familar with, Most of those parts are no longer available. The FCC ID does not help, you need a model number of the unit to try to look up parts. A Microwave puts out radio waves and such has to be regulated by the FCC. Federal Comunications Commission. That number wont help find parts for the unit. Sorry

Chances are you have a failing bottom door switch, or its mount is loose, misaligned, or broken.

I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

You must take the door out by removing a screw then lifting the door off the hinge pin then the door must be laid on it's front and, completely
disassembled to replace the door handle.

The door handle can easily be replaced on most microwave ovens. You just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and/or replace the door handle:

The cost usually averages about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided. However, price and configuration of your oven also depends upon the MODEL NUMBER. If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement door handle is WB15X10023.

but if you send the model number im sure we can help
most times repacing the door is really just a matter of lifting it off the pin hinges after you have removed the vent
but i can be more clear with the exact model

I have the same problem- funny when we built we went all Maytag and got a bunch of lousy handles- the stove, micro, fridge, and freezer... I glued the pieces of the handle together and used plumber's putty to fix it. It's MightyPutty, but without the repackaging and cost. Just knead the putty until mixed, fill the cavity of the handle and press on the door where it was... No problem after six months so far.
