It's F10 to enter the restore partition, not F8. Download the manual Here.

I have a gateway laptop LT4008u I need to know if anyone can please help me learn how to restore it back to factory settings.

If you still have the factory O.E.M. in the partition you should be able to do a shortcut key recovery, turn on the device while holding down "ALT" & tap tap tap the "F10" key, it take several attempts of a "hard shut down" & "restart" (power button), if your hardware is working & the device has the original factory O.S. it will bring up the "factory default reset" I've had to "shut down & start up" while pecking away at the keys 9 or 10 times on some devices till the reset finely pop up.. if that does not work try tapping "F8" on the start up, it should give you a few recovery options .. I wish you all the best..

If you download and install windows updates and updated drivers from Toshiba that may fix your problem otherwise press F8 just before it starts to boot and choose restore if the restore partition is still intact on the hdd.

I want to restore my hp pavilion dm4 to factory settings

Are you specifically talking about "settings" or are you wanting to restore the PC to its original factory condition? Original Factory Condition can be done with your system restore CD/DVD that you created from the restore partition or from the restore partition itself. In either instance you will lose any data stored if you choose to do an erase wich is the only option to bring it back to its original factory condition.

I need to restore my computer to the factory settings. I have an HP PavillionDV5000 with Windows XP. When I open PC Recovery and select "PC Recovery", the computer automatically shuts down and...

After you've used your laptop for an extended period of time its hard drive may become filled with files you don't want or even infected with malicious virus programs downloaded from the Internet. If you don't want to go through the folders on your laptop and manually delete each unnecessary file you can restore the computer to its original factory settings instead. Restoring a laptop wipes out any existing data and entirely reinstalls the operating system.

1.Place the operating system recovery CD that came with your computer into the CD or DVD drive. Restart the computer.
2.Wait for the computer manufacturer's logo to pop up on the screen. Press the keyboard key that brings up the recovery menu, which is usually "F2," "F8," or "Ctrl" and "F11" pressed simultaneously.
3.Select the specific language you want the operating system to use from the menu at the top of the screen. Select "Next."
4.Choose the option labeled "PC Restore," "Repair Your Computer" or something similar. Click "Next."
5.Select "Restore" and then click "Enter" to start the process. Click "Restart" once the process has ended to boot the restored computer to its operating system.

If the previous owner ever formatted the disk, then they probably wiped out the hidden restore partion if one existed. This link will take to you to a restore disk ordering site. You can order the disks to restore to factory. $29.99

OR you can go to Dell and find/order restore disks there..

My computer was doing a windows update it shut off half way through now it wont boot up its vista how can i restore it to original factory setting cause the restore feature doesn t work on it now ...

F9 isn't the key you want to press, when your computer is booting up, you want to spam the F8 key. This will bring you to the Advanced System Option menu. From here you can either try logging into Safe Mode and performing a System Restore, or you can choose Directory Services Restore Mode.
If that doesn't correct the problem, put your Windows Vista DVD into your computer, go into the BIOS and enable your computer to boot from the DVD.

If you aren't sure how to set this up properly, I would suggest calling a friend who does, or bring the computer to a service technician. Setting something incorrectly in the BIOS Menu can severely damage your computer.

How to reset to factory settings a toshiba satellite A305-S6829 with Vista ? (pressing 0, or F8 didn't bring me far!

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

Note that this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!
