Dunno why you ended up here but you will need hoses and at least one barrel of water to recirculate, two would be better, a children's swimming pool even moreso.

That supply of water will get hot very quickly otherwise and cost you a headgasket at least; seized bearings could follow.

Monitor the temperature of the water (a hand will do nicely!) and waste some additional cold water if needed.

What size motor for a 1970 15ft. seaswirl boat

outboard??? you could go all the way to 40 hp but id not recommend that much , but maybe a 20 hp would be just right !! its all about the condition/design of the transom and how you want the boat to sit in the water (weight) at rest ive seen motors as low as 10 hp on boats this size

Boat water in oil chevy big block

Hello, a good part of the time the cause is bad exhaust manifolds and or risers and or riser gaskets..leaking internaly and filling some piston cylinders with water through open valves of that cylinder when engine is not running, the water leaks past the piston rings and down into the oil pan it goes.. usually caused due to rust and erosion from salt water use or riser gasket fatigue\failure or even freeze cracks internally. Another common issue is the oil cooler may have failed internally and is mixing raw water with oil. I would remove and test the oil cooler first as the exhaust is cumbersome and alot more expense.
You can bench test these items just using a common sense approach and youtube is a great source for how to videos. Hope this helps.

Speedometer not working my boat

Unless that has a spin wheel sensor on the transomn, you will find your pito tube intake is plugged. Most common on shallow water boats and weedy lakes. Using a wire and some compressed air on the pito tube (NOT the gauge) will usually clear it, but get ready to keep cleaning it as that was the nature of the beast.

Most of those big mercury motors had the pick up built into the lower unit.

Just bought a used boat, 1966 sportscraft with an evinrude 2 stroke motor, don't know how to test the motor without going into the water. don't know much about boats

Hi. If you just want to run the motor then you can do it in you driveway. Go to a sports store with boating equipment and ask for "Muffs" to run your boat motor out of water. You can see a pictures of outboard motor muffs on google images:

Take the muffs and place them over the water intakes located above the propeller (look like vents on each side). Hook a garden hose up the muffs and start water flow. Make sure nothing is near the propeller. Make sure to pump the bulb in the fuel line to the motor until it stiffens. Crank the motor. When the motor starts, you should see water start to flow out of the back of the motor near the cover and out of the center of the propeller with the exhaust. You must keep water flow to the motor using the muffs while it is running or it will burn up.
