Question about Other Network Devices

1 Answer

Wifi access I have an acer extensa 4420 and I can usually recieve a signal for wifi and surf the internet. I have tried to access a signal that is 78percent and higher and my computer says it cannot connect to this signal. I checked to find that the network is not a secured one and it says that I have manually disconnected this signal. When I try to connect I get a wi lan failed message. How do I get this resolved, I work from home sometimes and this is really bad for bussiness. Thank you and look forward to your solution.

Find the router and locate yourself as close as possible to it. If you are in the guest house and the router is in a main house, try opening a window or door if you can see the house out it, as wifi works better with less obstructions in between you and the access point.

How to I get connected to the internet on my Toshiba Libretto 100 CT

That is a pretty old machine. Not sure whether it has enough resources to browse web. I don't think that machine has either usb or modem port. If so you need to buy a router which has a serial connectivity. I m not sure whether they are available. You can use a serial to usb converter to access it. There are some techniques to overclock the CPU as well. You can check it by surfing the net.

Most probably. If you're seeing an error back from a Radware Director, it suggests a problem on the back end servers.

Hugesnet HN7000s Modem Only the power light comes on.

what seems to be the issue? i'm a hughesnet install/repair contractor

as a catch-all heres some places to start....

we'll start with the 5 lights on the front of the modem:

the top one tells you if the ethernet cable is plugged into anything.... if it's off check to make sure that cable is plugged in. if it is....replace the ethernet cable, they are cheap and available virtually everywhere from walmart to radio shack.

the next 2 lights are for transmit and recieve.... they should blink a lot but not in any particular pattern. if either of these lights is acting funny you could have cabling issue (ie: improper fitting, rust on the line, messed up groundblock, or even a severed cable), a misaligned dish, or even a blown radio (its far more common to blow out the radio than to blow out the modem...especially on those 7k systems) you might be able to correct the cable issue yourself with the right tools, but DO NOT attempt to re-align your dish....its touchy. btw i should state that if hughes catches you monkeying with your hardware they'll yank your warranty....either dont do it or dont get caught.

next light down is the "system" light. this tells you if you are connected to hughes. this light will be OFF of there is a problem with the transmit and recieve. if there is no problem with the transmit/recieve and this light is off there could be a billing problem at the other end. contact support.....you'll get a guy in india or the philipines or something that says his name is "harry" or "john" or "fred" or something american sounding. this always cracks me up.

next one down is the power light. if you have other lights on but the power light is off it indicates a broken modem...no way around it, you're gonna need a new modem.

ok, on with the trouble-shoot. if your top light is on you should be able to use your computer to look at the modem using a browser (firefox, internet explorer, safari, etc) type in 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. you should get a interface with some colored buttons across the top. the system status button should be green...any other color means trouble. the other 3 should be blue. if you cannot connect to the interface the trouble is user-end...bad ethernet cable (as mentioned before) or something beyond-the-line from the modem is messed up (router, computer, or something)

if you have any red lights you can click on them to see what's wrong. any problem areas will have red flags with error codes next to them. write these down as they are useful to diagnose what is actually wrong with the system.

if your system status button is yellow, click it....most likely you have "fapped out" (violated hughes' fair access policy) btw you can look at your signal strength too....there is no way to tell you what the signal strength should be since i dont know which bird (satellite) you're pointed at. each bird has a different acceptable signal strength.

let me know what you find and i'll see what i can do.

Cannot get 2wire to work on my iphone! :(

Try this one:

>on ur WIFI networks, click "other..."
>then manually type in ur network name (if its set to default, it should be 2WIRE and the last 3 digits of ur SN. It is case sensitive so type the name exactly how it looks like.)
>make sure that the setting is set to WEP
>on the password box, enter a dollar sign/$ first and then the 10 digit code under ur 2wire

keep me posted on this one

Can't access my DSC 950G security camera

you have to log into the main IP address, not the camera IP address. If you are using wireless, the camera will have an IP address different than the one for the router coming from the ISP.
I just bought this camera myself and am trying to work out the kinks. My ip keeps changing and i am not sure how to keep it the same, static?

External Antenna

First, try changing the channel your access point (AP) is using. Maybe there is some interference with another AP or with an electronic appliance such as a wireless phone. Try all available channel. While changing your channel number, make sure that the wi-fi power of your access point is set to the maximum available (100%).

Second, make sure that there is as less metal as possible around the AP, for example if the AP is sitting in a metal book case or on a metal shelf.

Third, some appartment buildings, expecially old ones, have very thick walls made of concrete or brick. This is a nightmare for wi-fi. Try bringing the AP to a more central point in your appartment, if possible (I know this may be complicated).

Acer labtop Extensa 4420

The Acer Extensa 4420 is compatible with the bluetooth module for the 5620 or a Dell RD530 module. Do a search on eBay.

Anyway, you'll have to open up your case for this. The connector for the module is just above and to the right of the Optical bay (just next to the speaker connector).

As for how to open the case, the service manual can be found here:
