Question about Dell Dimension 4500 PC Desktop

2 Answers

We have an approx. 6 (7?) yr old Dell Dimension 4500 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz, and I think we upgraded the RAM a bit a few years back. The computer runs extremely slowly...we've tried removing pictures onto CD's, and it hasn't made much difference. A couple of folks who work with computers have tried their magic...we're not very experienced technologically, but willing to try something that's legitimate. I've heard of Uniblue's Registry Booster program that is recommended to improve performance. Any ideas welcome.

Try to uninstall the programs that you are not in use of any longer. Then I would trie CClean to get rid of fils that the computer dont use any longer (save a registry of the changes before you "clean"- that will be an option before the program actualla do the clean). Then I would do a defragment of the harddrive. If that doesnt work I would reinstall windows.

Well an actual very good idea is to reinstall the operating system. This will help the system a lot even if it's an old system.
Here is a tips&tricks that will help you in the future: http://www.fixya.com/support/r4213055-quickly_reinstall_operating_system

Try a defragmentation of the primary partition and uncheck some of the unnecessary software that open with the operating system from Run-msconfig.

If you need further assistance please leave a comment.

Dell dimension maximum cpu upgrade

This desktop has a motherboard in it that has an intel LGA 775 processor socket in it. From the spec's I found the cpu that ships with the system should be able to scale up to 3.5 Ghz. But you should be able to replace it with any Pentium 4 that fits into an LGA 775 socket.

If new processor supports your old motherboard then you will upgrade system with your old motherboard.

If its not supported to new mother board then you have to buy new motherboard to upgrade your system.

Thanks.

Can I upgrade my CPU to an Intel Core 2 duo 1.7

You are basically limited to what was optional on the model. So you can only upgrade to one of the following cpus:

Intel Pentium M 745 (1.8-GHz) with 400-MHz front
side bus (FSB)
Intel Pentium M 735 (1.7-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 710 TJ85 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB;
operates at a lower temperature than other processors
Intel Celeron M 340 (1.5-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Celeron M 330 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB

And you are limted to 2gb of ram max on this model.

I want upgrad my dell dimensons prtocessor but i dont know anyu that will fit its 479 slot any sugesstions

According to Dell here are the CPUs that your motherboard (if you have the original one) can use:

Intel® Pentium® 4 that runs at 1.80, 2.00, 2.40, or 2.50 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally;

Intel Celeron® that runs at 1.70, 2.00, 2.10, 2.20, or 2.30 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally.

So, if your current CPU is slower than any of the above, you can replace it with something like this Pentium 4 (2 GHz and cheap) or this Celeron (2.3 GHz) new or used (very cheap) this Pentium 4 (2.5 GHz). Looks like 2.5 GHz is the maximum recommended speed for the motherboard.

Hardware upgrade required for autocad 2009

Your existing CPU will not work with that motherboard. The AM2+/AM2 processor slot is for AMD processors only. For this motherboard, you will need one of the following processors: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2

Upgrade cpu

It is a bit of a crapshoot trying to upgrade a processor from a major manufacturer. Their motherboards are designed specifically for the manufacturer and documentation on exactly what will work NOW compared to when the unit was new is rather hard to come by. They don't support people upgrading very well compared to the aftermarket manufacturers.

You should go to dell.com and put in your service tag to check your exact configuration yourself before spending any money.

According to Dell, the Dimension 5150 has a motherboard that uses the Intel 945G Express chipset. You can see INTEL'S documentation on that chipset's capabilities here. According to that documentation you can use a socket LGA775 with up to a 1066 MHz system bus speed.

Looking at Newegg, the fastest LGA775 processor with 1066 MHz are a 2.93GHz Duo core or a 2.4 GHz quad core. Again, no guarantees either will work with your system, and you definately want to make sure your power supply and case cooling are up to the task.

Processor upgrade

What is the service tag? Pentium 4 2.8 GHz is the fastest they put in them according to Dell, but not all of them have the hardware to support the 533MHz Front side bus.

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc

Should I get a new cpu for dell dimension 3000?

HII MARLBOROMANZ ,
YEAH THE PROCESSOR IS BIT SLOW FOR GAMES TO RUN PROPERLY.

I WOULD SUGGEST U TO BUY MOTHERBOARD THATS INTEL 965G AND CORE2DUO PROCESSOR.

U DONT NEED TO UPFRADE THE RAM AND VIDEO CARD U CAN USE THEM IN NEWLY UPGRADED MOTHERBOAD AND PROCESSOR.

I AM SURE U WILL ENJOY GAMES IF U UPGRADE ONLY OTHERBOARD AND PROCESSOR.REST ALL IS FINE.
