Question about GE Profile JT980 Electric Double Oven

1 Answer

When I set oven temp to 350, it reads ERR. The temp defaults to 288. Is it set at centigrade? If so, how do I convert to Fahrenheit?

    Hi Greg,
My oven was set at Centigrade. This link did not help as I've seen it before. I just explored all buttons on oven and finally converted to Fahrenheit. My oven now can be programmed to temperatures above 288!

No way is it set at Centigrade.Even at 288 that would be almost 600 F.I have a link to GE error messages, and it says something about resetting your control. The first one on the link should be the correct one. There are instructions on what to do,or so it appears. If you need help, just comment to this post and I will get an auto link.Good luck! Okay Nancy. It seems strange that an oven would go that high.Anyhow, that was going to be my next suggestion.Just play with the buttons...lol I am also glad you had enough sense to look for it yourself.I see alot of posts on here that people could easily find on their own.Mainly the flat panel TV problems.Have a good day.Greg

    Greg,
I called GE to see if a rep could trouble shoot with me over phone. The phone rep would not put anyone on the phone but instead wanted to arrange for home visit. Just to make a home visit it would have costed $79 plus parts! I told her I refused to pay that much money for an oven that was fairly new (2.5 yrs old). Take care.

That's baloney Nancy.I do not know what your situation is man-wise.Unfortunately,some businesses seem to like to prey on women. One woman I helped out unfortunately came to this site after she had been taken(an Australian).I'll tell you what,I am good with cars, video games, home phones, anything to do with a/c,some TV knowledge,VCR/DVD,motorcycles,who knows what else.If you have a problem with something, email me.If I can't figure it out,I can point you in the right direction, questions to ask etc.Just in the subject write fixya or something because my email has many filters.Spam hater. gmccarthy 86 @ hotmail.com If you read my profile, you will see I have an aircraft mechanic license.Any car systems,a/c,heating,and a bunch of stuff that is only on planes I have learned about it,fixed it,or know how it works. Glad you fixed it and saved $79 + unnecessary who knows what. Greg

You're quite welcome.Like I said I do not know your man situation,I am married, but I really like to help women solve their car problems or whatever they may have because most do not have the knowledge and can easily be taken(in my aircraft mechanic school there was 1 woman in a class of 80+).I used to go to 1 garage where I got to know the guy working on my car.The last time I went there I asked to have some work done and I got taken,I know i did.I let my guard down by not asking the right questions like I always do,he was gone,I did not know, and the chain has all kinds of complaints against them which i already knew.I looked around for a new mechanic by when I had a major problem,I let the same place do the analysis(free),told them I had to wait because I didn't have the money(lie) called around some places with the exact parts I needed and priced around. The guy I ended up with is right down the street, costed about $70 less on a $260 job,,is AAA approved,(if you're not in America there are high standards to have that recommendation)and gives 10% off labor,he doesn't even ask just gives it to anyone. So like I said,I like helping damsels in distress, lol,so cancel your subscription, and email me.Also,if you travel alot out of town 70-80 miles, you should get AAA+ if you're in America,+ gives 100 miles free towing and reg. gives 5 miles towing.+is only about $22 more.Any questions for cars, oil, fluids ,filters...just ask, gas. Also read my tips about keys and gas, good info. It's normally free but it looks like people who subscribe or whatever,I see credits for 1 cent every now and then.Cya Greg

My Kitchenaid Oven doesn't allow me to set a temperature higher that 350 degrees. Electric oven. For example, i will punch in 425 and the panel will default back the temperature to 350.

350 will be the design max for your oven unless the handbook says for your model is higher rated and is faulty
repair or replace with a higher rated temp oven

Why does my oven thermometer read less than the temperature the oven is set at?

An oven doesn't go to the temp selected. That is the average temp. If you set it to 350, it may drop to 300, then to 400, but will maintain an average of 350. Without knowing your model #, it is hard to say. Some have anticipator (that anticipates the temp and controls the heater and the thermocouple that is trying to keep the temp steady. Some models have an adjustment at the oven switch (rear) that can be adjusted for temp up or down.

Oven gives err message when set above 275 degrees

Your range has been reset to celsius from fahrenheit. It must be reset to fahrenheit.

Press bake and broil pads simultaneous for approximately 3 to 4 seconds.

When SF comes on, press the broil pad.

You should see the Letter C.

Press again and the letter F will come on.

Press start.

Your range shouldproperly set the temprature now!

Our Whrlpool Super capacity 465 oven will only let you preheat to 260 degrees. After 260 the display showing rhe temp. will not advance any higher. It will still broil when you push the broil setting but...

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I'll start by saying your post indicates it is a Whirlpool oven, however if you could post the complete model number I can speak directly about possible remedies instead of generalizing...

**Though it may not be necessary as I believe your disply may be set to Celsius (centigrade, like Canada and Europe) instead of Fahrenheit since 260C equals 500F thus it tops out at 260...most ovens will not exceed this temp unless in a self clean cycle.**

I suspect if you refer to your operator/owners manual it likely will instruct you how to change it back to display the temperature in Fahrenheit.

Thank you for choosing FixYa. I'll need to watch for your reply before moving forward.

Macmarkus :)

My oven won't heat above 255 degrees. just curious what the problem might be.

You do not state if this is in centigrade or fahrenheit.
If it is centigrade, then it will not reach more than this if it is a domestic oven, if fahrenheit, then it should get hotter, so I would suspect a faulty oven thermostat as being the cause of the problem

No sure if the temp. is in C or F

Most ovens are now calibrated to read the temp in C.
If you are not sure which is which on your oven, then if it is centigrade, it will go up to about 230 c on the dial, or 400 to 500f in farenhiet

Kitchenaid Superba walloven/microwave - problem with big oven.

I lost power and had the same problem. 177 degrees and ERR whenever I tried to change it. Reading the manual, I noticed that it was showing the degree symbol instead of F. When you hold down the broil/maxi/econo button for five seconds, it changes to F and then it worked perfectly. Makes no sense, but worked without any repairs needed.
