SOURCE: JD X320 blades stay engaged, always. Narrowed it

Hi you can adjust the gap on these clutches , The recomended gap is 0.10 thou you slide this size feeler guage into the hole on the side of the clutch there is three holes and three adjusting nuts you have to try and get it even .

SOURCE: electro magnetic blade drive has stopped working.

hi wayne it could very well be a short in the wiring or a bad blade clutch. start by checking the wires on where they plug on the switch. then follow those wires all the way to the clutch looking for a broke wire or unplugged wire or a burnt spot on the wires. also look for a fuse or fusable link somewhere on the machine. see if this helps let me know. thanks jd

check to see that the switch is good,just cross the wires and it will tell ya
check the length of the wire down to the elect pto and also if need be the pto its self

The mower may not recognize operator presence. There may be a switch under the seat that is not closing.

Blades suddenly stopped engaging, tractor runs, drives


It is most likely the the electro magnetic clutch failed.
It can be read out with an ohm meter for continuity, only 2 wires. Also verify when disconnected that it is receiving voltage from the Pto when the Pto switch is energized.

Blades wont engage have 12 volts to the clutch when switch is pulled.


The clutch is electro magnetic, once 12 volts is sent throught the windings the clutch engages, so if it does not engage there is more than likley a brake in the internal windings which unfortunatley will mean a new clutch.

MOWER blades WILL NOT SHUTOFF


sounds like a electro clutch engage type system

maybe your electro-clutch engage switch is faulty or a wire is connected the wrong way

was the clutch replaced recenlty and was is compatiable ?

or maybe you have a faulty clutch to test try

remove plug lead from plug

disconnect wires @pto clutch and apply 12 volt directly to clutch then remove voltage - if clutch engages then disengages the clutch is good it should click on then off if it does then its a switch fault
replace pto switch

2001 silverado 2500hd a/c HEADACHE


There is a good chance that the electro magnetic compressor clutch is bad and will need to be replaced. The compressor is good, but the clutch system has a short in it at the compressor's clutch, which is causing your fuse to blow.
Test the connection at the clutch for a short if you have a multi meter. If it shows you have a short, then replace the electro magnetic clutch solenoid.

Are the blades turning? If they are not, this is normal. The PTO is an electro magnetic clutch that engages when you apply electricity via the PTO switch. When it is disengaged, the bearings and top portion of the clutch will turn because it is coupled to the engine. If the blades ARE turning then you have a bad clutch and will need to repair or replace it

Yes it is. It is an electro-magnetic device that 'grabs' your blade pulley, that normally free wheels, to turn your blades when there's power to it. Dwain

Hello ianh_2007:

Usually this Problem is Caused by a Blown Fuse or a Bad PTO Ground.
1-The Following is a Basic File I Made for Checking the PTO (Blade Engagement).
>>The Most Common Cause for this Problem is the PTO Ground. >>A Quick Ground Check is to Use Another Wire and Ground the PTO at the Harness Connection Nearest the PTO.
>>Be Careful and Do Not Ground the HOT Wire. Use a Multimeter and Locate the Ground Wire.
>>Clean the PTO Ground and All the Connections for the PTO Wiring Harness.
>>If you have an Ohmmeter, Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the Front of the Clutch and Check the Resistance of the Clutch. You should have around 4 or 5 OHMs. If at or near Zero, the Coil has Shorted.
2- >>The Following is a Basic File I made for Setting the PTO Clearance. Any Input is Appreciated. **Some of the Newer PTOs cannot be Adjusted.
>>If you can Get a Blade Style Feeler Gauge between the PTO Magnet and Clutch, then Set the Clearance at .015in. The Newer PTOs have the Same Set Up as the Older PTOs, except there is No Adjustments.
>>I Suggest also that you Rig a 12 Volt Light for Testing the Current Flow to the PTO while Operating the Mower. If the Light Blinks During Operation, then you have a Bad Connection somewhere to the PTO Clutch.
>>If the Light Stays Steady and the PTO Still Kicks in and Out, then it is the Adjustment.
>>You can Also Try Turning the Spring Loaded Adjuster Nuts 1/4 Turn and Operate the Mower. Do Not Adjust Over 1/2 Turn.
>>If you have Adjusted to 1/2 Turn and the Problem is Still Present and you Know the Voltage to the PTO is Steady, then Replace the PTO.**
