Hi you need to make sure you have got the right ram stick goto www.crucial.com and scan your computer and it will tell you exactly the type and the maximum your computer can hold once you have done this and you have the right ram stick then do the following.
with it off and unplugged take the case off the computer then touch a radiator to earth your body to remove any static from you then have a look for the ram sticks in your pc you may have only two slots or 4 if you have 2 and both have sticks in you need to take them out and put the new one in and the next biggest one if it has four slots and only 2 have ram in then you can fit your new ram strait in, then put the case back on and switch your computer on and it will install them for you and you should then have a faster computer.

its best you buy the ram first so you know what your looking for inside your pc

let me know if you have any problems or need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a full page of unrated posts, thanks

Can I install more than 512mb of memory on a Presario s5300nx. I actually want to do 2gb or more. If so, how can i safely do it w/o messing up my computer. Thank you.

> I want to do 2GB or more.

As the Rolling Stones sang, "you can't always get what you want".

See: http://www.memorystock.com/ram/CompaqPresarios5300nxRAM.html

which states that your motherboard has 2 RAM slots, with a maximum of 512MB per slot.

So, how many RAM slots currently are empty, and how much RAM is installed?

If you currently have 2 sticks, at 256MB/stick, you will need to remove both sticks, and install two new sticks.

If you currently have 512MB of RAM, and one empty slot, then that web-page describes the exact type of RAM that you can insert into that empty slot.

Running a 1 gig stick and a 512mb stick, system only shows 896mb, apparently not recognizing all of the ram installed?

I assume that you've booted the computer with _ONLY_ the 512MB stick installed, and that the computer recognized it (reporting either 512MB or 384MB), i.e., the 512MB RAM is not "defective".

Hmm. 1024 minus 896 is 128.
So, the "integrated-into-the-motherboard" video-card is "stealing" 128MB of your RAM, to be used strictly for "video" purposes, leaving 896MB for Windows to use.

Now, about the "missing" 512MB of RAM.

1. If you have four slots for RAM, and they are physically arranged into two pairs of two slots, rather than four equally-spaced slots, your motherboard is capable of "dual-channel" mode. But, since your two sticks of RAM are not "matched" (size, speed), you _MUST_ insert both sticks into _ADJACENT_ slots (not slots 1/3, nor slots 2/4), in order to run your RAM in "single-channel" mode.

2. If you have two slots for RAM, interchange the two sticks, to see if that makes a difference.

Trying to upgrade RAM on GA-945gzm-s2 mobo. Already have 1gb 5300 ddr2 stick of RAM. Works fine until I place the 2nd stick of RAM in. I turn it on and get no post beeps, no video, but everything is...

The new RAM module could be faulty or the second memory slot is faulty.
Try removing the original 1Gb memory module and inserting the new memory module in its place to see if the computer boots up normally. If it doesn't then then new memory module is faulty.

You may not be able to. the sticks usually have to be added in matching pairs. some older machines may read them mismatched

One of your RAM sticks might be bad.

Hopefully you have two RAM sticks. They are located behind one of the doors under your laptop.

Try removing one of the RAM sticks & fire the PC up with just one RAM stick installed.

If it still doesn't work, try removing the second RAM stick & replace it with the RAM stick you originally removed. Then try firing it up again.

If that works, try re-installing both sticks again. The contacts may have just been dirty & needed the RAM to be re-seated.

Ram and Bios issue

Make sure your other stick of Ram is installed properly, once that is done make sure that the stick of ram is compatible with that computer. After that even, check to see if your computer is capable of processing that amount of RAM.

Error message after installing memory ram upgrade.....

The memory appears to be the right kind.

Try installing just one 1GB module, and run the diagnostics (press F12 at boot time and select diagnostics).

Good luck!
