This unfortunately is what is known as the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD). It is a term used when your PS3 has developed some kind of hardware failure. There are lots of speculation as to what causes this error but the most common view is a result of overheating. As the PS3 heats up inside the solder joints between the CPU (central processing unit) and the GPU (graphical processing unit) expand and contract when cooling. Unfortunately sometimes the solder actually forms a hairline crack and doesnt contact properly when it cools down. This will then cause the YLOD fault. There are however other things that can cause it, Sony will say it is a general hardware failure. At the end of the day there are do-it-yourself fixes out there for this problem, some may work, some wont but the final result is that once you have this problem you never get rid of it totally. If you manage to fix it you may have several months of trouble free gaming, on the other hand you may just have literally hours.

If the console is under warranty still give Sony a call, they should replace it. If it is out of warranty give them a call anyway, explain your dismay, they may be feeling kind and give you a replacement anyway.

I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

My playstation has the light trun green yellow flashing red light

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings. try this? seems to fix alot of issues.

Bar light turns from green to yellow to blinking red

this is similar to the red blinking lights on the xbox360...it seems your cell processor has overheated resulting in a cold solder joint or worse bridged solder involving the BGA array...I have had some sucess in fixing these albeit limited. sony charges 150 plus state tax and sends you a refurbished unit.
