Question about GE 25.0 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Black-on-Black

2 Answers

A few days ago when i used the ice dispenser the light dimmed then it stopped working. It worked again once then not again. About two days later I noticed that the freezer was not cooling properly. Last night I touched the ice lever and the whole fridge shut off but the lights were on flickering. Then a click about every second started on the circuit board. Sounds like a I need a new circuit board?

The fridge is only 2 years old. Just very surprising. I have never owned a fridge with a computer so I wasn't sure. If you were me would you just replace the board or have a technician come out and waste $90. Thanks for your help!

Hi, from the detailed explanation you posted here, it's quite obvious that you need a new circuit board as you already know yourself. R

Hello,

If the lights are on but the machine is not working, then you need to check for the temperature control. If it is off, turn it on. If not, it means the circuit board is bad and will need to be replace. Also, check the compressor for overheating. You need to unplug the refrigerator and clean the condenser coils. If the compressor is bad, then you need to call the repair man.

Take care.

Ice and Water not dispensing. Light button not working

http://www.repairclinic.com/0100_1.asp
There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

I have a GE side by side refrigerator model # PSS26SGRD and the water and ice dispenser stops working without any warning or symptom intermintently. It will be working find for days or weeks and suddenly...

Well, the solution to this problem was posted in this thread
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1295372-ge_profile_ref_ice_despenser_motor_not

It seems that the bulb in the front panel is pulling to much current as it ages and it makes the control panel in not work properly. Removing the bulb will fix the problem - just fixed mine.

Also seems to match your symptoms (works sometimes and then not others - bulb current is inconstent, light dims when dispense lever pressed - again wrong current draw).

Good luck

I had the exact problem with my GSL25JFRFBS. It turned out to be a bad control board. The service technician that replaced the board said that the lights dimming on the on the ice/water dispenser is a direct indication of the control board being bad. This cost me $303.53 and my refridgerator is only a little over 2 years old. You can buy a new control board - WR55X10656 from GE online for a little over $157.00. From what I've found, this is an inherit issue with this model.

first i wold check the micro switch that the acuator paddle trips next i would replace the watervalves which is the most likely cause of this finally id replace the control bd as some early ges had a promblem with this there is also a solinoid in there for opening the ice chute door but that wouldnt affect the water but may cause a voltage drop if its getting bad id change the water valves the ice is on one valve the door water is on the other

Your problems are the power board for sure. I have the same refrigerator and have read dozens of forums and advise pages looking for answers. If you let the problem countinue your fridge will completely stop cooling and all your food will be trash as has happened to me.

Symptoms: Fan in the back starts to make click or flopping sound as it tries to start up. Ice despenser doesent despense ice. water works sometimes. Eventually you notice your food defrosting partially and then refreezing as the defrost timer stops working which is controlled by the power board. Light dims and pulses when you hold the Ice despencer in. If you remove the light for the dispencer your water will work fine as long as the fan isnt making the clicking noise. Fan will eventually start up and run.

FYI GE customer Care is useless

So your not getting water from the dispenser either??? Yes the water filter can be the source of your problem. Let me know if the water is coming from the dispenser.
