Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies
Please follow these steps for help:
Print out the documents that you want to send. Create a cover letter if you are sending professional documents.
Separate documents by fax number. If you need to send faxes to more than one number, make piles for each number you need to fax to.
Set up pages in each document and pile according to how the fax machine accepts pages. Follow the diagram that located on the paper tray demonstrating how to position paper. Place the pages face down or face up on the paper tray, according to the diagram.
Your documents may feed from the back of the stack of pages to the front. It is possible that the fax machine will send the paper on top first. Check the fax's owner's manual to find out exactly how it sends pages. The page order, including your cover page, may be reversed when the recipient receives the fax.
Type the first fax number on the fax machine's dialing pad. Put the area code in first for local faxes that use a ten-digit number. Enter "1" before the area code for long distance faxes. Put in the country and city code, if necessary, if the fax is going to an international number.
Send an entire pile of documents at one time if they are all going to the same number. However, do not send more than about 10 to 20 pages at a time if you are using a desktop fax machine. You do not want to overload it. Higher-quality and higher-capacity fax machines can handle much larger documents, but remember that the recipient may not be able to handle too large of a document.
Repeat this procedure for faxes going to different numbers or for documents you have to send to the same number that exceed the approximate 20-page recommended maximum.
Push the "Send button" on the fax machine. Listen for the dial tone and the fax number being dialed, as well as the modem tone when the fax is connecting with and sending data to the receiving end machine.
Set up a fax modem on your land phone line. This is necessary if you are not going to use an Internet-based fax service.
Scan documents if you do not have copies of them saved on your computer. It is also possible to send faxes from open documents in many word processors.
Save multiple documents as one document if they are to be sent to one fax number. Copy and paste text from different word processing documents, and paste them into a new document. Save that document as either a PDF file or as a word processing document. Ensure the formatting matches your specifications. Add in your own cover letters between each document to ensure that your faxes get to the correct departments or individuals if they are not all going to the same location.
Open the first file you want to send. Choose "Print" from your open file, and select "Fax" as your printer. A fax wizard will open. Follow the instructions in the wizard to fill in the first fax number.
Send your faxes online an alternative to using a phone line-based fax modem. eFax Free, FreePopFax, and FreeFaxButton are three of the many online fax services available. These particular services allow you to fax documents online for free, but there are others that you can pay for that may meet your needs better.

If the FAX is hanging up on the other end might be a 2 page limit on the other side, or you must have a dsl line with a bad filter try using a new filter if that is the case.
There can be allot of causes to this.

Tips for a great answer:
Directly from HP's manual on this printer:
Send a basic fax
You can easily send a single- or multiple-page black-and-white fax by using the
control panel, as described here. If you want to send a color or photo fax, see the
onscreen HP Image Zone Help.
Note If you need printed confirmation that your faxes were successfully sent,
enable fax confirmation before sending any faxes. For more information, see
Print fax confirmation reports.
Tip You can also send a fax manually from a phone or by using monitor
dialing. These features allow you to control the pace of your dialing. They are
also useful when you want to use a calling card to charge the call and you
need to respond to tone prompts while dialing. For more information, see Send
a fax manually from a phone or Send a fax using monitor dialing.
1. Load your originals, with the print side up, into the document feeder tray. If you
are sending a single-page fax, such as a photograph, you can also load your
original on the glass.
Note If you are sending a multiple-page fax, you must load the originals
in the document feeder tray. You cannot fax a multiple-page document
from the glass.
2. Press Fax.
