Hi, the print carriage is supposed to move to the center of the unit when the access door opens and this one will not. It just stays there on the right. What can I do?

Vandybaby, you could have several issues here:
1. Your maintenance door sensor is not working/jammed, and the printer does not recognize the door is open- Verify that you are getting the flashing exclamation mark and message that the door is open, and that it goes off when closed.

2. There is a carriage validation sensor that was often a problem with the 7100 series, becoming glued down in drying ink when it was supposed to retract and allow the carriage to pass by. On this one, the question basically is "When the carriage doesn't come out of the service station "parking" area, is it trying to? Are you hearing or seeing the carriage trying to leave the service station, catching on or hitting something then pulling back, or does it just sit idle and never attempts to move.

Answering this, particularly #2, will be of great help in narrowing down your problem. Right now it could be anything from simply cleaning the encoder strip, to being as costly as needing a new logic board.

If you can provide a little more info, it will greatly speed up getting you the correct information in diagnosis. For the most part, this is likely to be very simple, probably only needing cleaning or realignment of a part to get you running again.

I am looking for a color access door for a print carriage on an hp psc2210 all in one printer. (C8654A)

  1. If you are putting in a new cartridge, make sure to remove the tape.
  2. Turn on the unit, then open the print carriage access door. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.
  3. Fit the cartridge into the proper carriage.
    • The carriage with the gray latch is for the black ink cartridge (HP 56), or the optional photo cartridge (HP 58).
    • The carriage with the blue latch is for the tri-color cartridge (HP 57).
Slide the cartridge into the carriage at a slight angle, as shown in the illustration above. When the cartridge is fully inserted into the carriage, rock it upright.
  4. Hold the hinged flap of the latch out while lowering the latch.
  5. When the latch is fully lowered, release the hinged flap. It should catch under the tabs on the carriage, as shown in the illustration.
  6. Close the cartridge access door.
  7. The LCD display may indicate that the cartridges need to be aligned. Press Enter on the front panel. You may discard the alignment page that prints.
Remove cartridges
  1. Turn on the unit, then open the print carriage access door. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.
  2. Press down lightly on the top of each ink cartridge latch and pull the lower section of the latch out to release the cartridge.
  3. Pull the cartridge out of the print carriage and relatch the empty print carriage. The print carriage may move to the right automatically, and if the latch is up, it could be damaged.

Paper jam?

Check Paper light flashes but there isn't a paper related problem The check paper light may also flash if there are other problems. Verify the following conditions:
  • Verify that the print cartridge door is closed.
  • The print carriage may be jammed, follow these steps to correct the problem:
    1. Open the print cartridge access door. If the print carriage can move, it should move to center. If the print carriage stays all the way left, unplug the power cord and then plug it back in. This will reset the unit and may allow the print carriage to move from the left.
    2. Disconnect the power cord from the all-in-one.
    3. Remove both print cartridges.
    4. Move the print carriage left and right slightly to verify that the print carriage will move freely. If the print carriage will not move freely, check for obstructions.
    5. Close the print cartridge access door.
    6. Plug the power cord back in.
    7. After the all-in-one initializes, the print cartridge light will flash. Open the access door and install the print cartridges.
    8. Close the print cartridge access door. If the problem returns, remove the print cartridges and wipe the electrical contacts before reinstalling them.
  • Try to make a copy. If the all-in-one pulls in paper but cannot make a copy, there may be a problem with the scanner mechanism. Contact HP for assistance.
