In short, yes. Both the harddrives and power supplies are hot-swappable. Please note that this assumes that you have the unit configured with 2 power supplies.

FAIL-SAFE FILE SERVER AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS If your data is very important, you...

If your data is very important, you should consider doing regular data backups because hard disk will fail at some at some stage in the future. This is especially true when you get an error message"hard drive is about to fail".

Depending upon how critical your computer or files server to you or your business, you should consider building a fail-safe computer or file server system using RAID technology. RAID means "A Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks" and there are several levels of RAID.

For details of different RAID levels - click on this link -,,sid5_gci214332,00.html

The most common of the fault redundant RAID systems are -

RAID 0 + RAID 1 provides fastest data transfer Mirrored hard drives.

RAID 5 is one of the most popular system, it data striping across hard drives with error correction. It has excellent performance with fail-safe system and allows for hot swappable hard drives.

There should be redundant powers supply inside the computer or file server in the event of a power supply failing.
Another consideration is to install a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to prevent a computer or server shut down from power outages, as this will corrupt your data.

These systems do not mean you should not back up your data on a regular basis.

1992 GMC 1500 will turn over but not start. I changed heater motor and disconnected computer behind dash reconnected everything now truck won't run . why

Did you disconnect the battery before you disconnected/ reconnected the under dash computer? These devices are extremely sensitive to power surges and most are not "hot swappable" which means that they need power removed before you connect or disconnect them.

You insert and remove an external hard disk from the computer or a device connected to the computer. true or false

It depends on the interface. If its USB or Firewire, then generally you can do that as they are "hot swappable." Some SCSI/UNIX interfaces are also hot swappable. Other devices or drives must be attached (inserted?) with the power off.

All ports busy

When there isn't an available line, you will get an "all ports busy" on the display of the phone. This can mean a few things. It can mean that your line cards (analog or digital) are not being seen by the NCP (Network Call Processor), all lines are busy or your T1/PRI circuit is down. If the cards are "Unknown" you can reboot the system (through the browser) and try again after about 5 minutes. The line cards are hot swappable and can be loosened, pulled out an inch or so and then pushed back in. Do not try this with the Call Processor though! It is NOT hot swappable!

What is hot swappable?

Yank a hard drive out and put another one in, or take that removed hard drive and connect it to another computer while the power is still on.

This is usually a feature on server hard drives.

Thers 4 wires to connect 1 red 1 black 1 white and

Well, if there are no color lights on this strobe effect, a fairly standard color code for AC is Black is HOT White is Neutral, no insulation is ground and Red would power your strobe ( I Think )., I would hate to misinform you. Is this an AC powered strobe? Like when you wire up a ceiling fan you have the same color code. I'm sorry I can't help you further, and messing with live AC can be unsettling.

PowerEdge 1750 can not recognize the Local Harddrive

I think you need to provide heaps more info, like what operating system etc.. Have you tried to change the interface to another port eg if IDE, then move the cable to the secondary or if sata test the drive with another cable/port.. Have you tested the drive in another computer? OK, if it's scsi, then does the drive need a termination? Most scsi drives need a dongle or a terminator to allow them to be recognised.
