It comes out of the holes because the water goes in the holes. That might sound dumb but Vigoro designed these only to be in dry conditions, such as attached to the water line. I used them for sprinklers, but the water poured into the timer so bad it shorted it out in a week. I did find a vigoro timer with no holes and a sealed unit, and they work great. But I can't find them anymore.

We have 3 of them in use and water flows from the holes in the backs of two of them (similar the the described condition above). Greginbend1's reply doesn't answer the question as I'm stumped by this condition and remain stumped. My only thought is to buy new timers. I read one post somewhere about a possible internal plastic component cracked from freezing..../shrug

I have the same issue. I bought two Vigoro timers (model 196-036), both were on the same faucet with a splitter all summer watering new grass seed. I removed them both at the same time. This season, one works, one pours water from the three slots on the back. Itchybuzz or c_greenberg, if you see this again, please post what you finally did. I have a feeling I know what you did, just want to verify before I toss the bad one....

I changed the battery on my Vigoro water meter but the numbers no longer appear on the screen; what can I do?

Clean battery terminals.
Reset timer, and see if functionality is restored.
Some timers go bad when battery is replaced. For example that is frequent complaint with Intermatic ST01C, etc.

Need to known how to set the timer do not have a manual we have the VIGORO deluxe water timer, they are about two years old.

I do not know how to set the timer, but can offer possible source for manual.

VIGORO timers can be same as Melnor:
Match up image with your timer and then download manual.
Water timers last 1 or 2 seasons. There is no repair for broken water timers.

We have a Vigoro Two Zone Water Timer. The timer started beeping and flashing that the batteries are low. We put new batteries in and it is still beeping and flashing low battery. What do we do now?

The timer is no good.
1) Clean battery terminals and make sure battery polarity is correct.

2) If you bought timer at Home Depot, call:
Internet Customer Service Center at 1-800-435-4654

3) If you live near Home Depot, then buy new timer and return defect timer in new package.

4) Here's what Home Depot customers say about this timer: the product will fail after 4 months, only worked one season, failed right out of box, new batteries did not restore functionality, etc. Only two good reviews.

Water is trickling out

No. Check to make sure the battery is good. If so, and you just purchased the timer, take it back.

Vigoro water timer problems

I also had this problem and found that the water pressure was too high. I turned the water spicket down one a a half turns (yours may vary) and now it's working fine.
