The small tube floating around it the gas tank pick up tube. The black piece is a retainer for the gas cap. Also if you do have spark does it run for a brief period if you place a little gas in the carb throat?

The leash to hold the cap is a common item to break and really doesn't need to be repair unless it bothers you or leaks. The tube that is loose is probably the cause of not starting. It is likely that the fuel line(s) have broken and are not allowing fuel to the carb. Your trimmer should have 2 line. The smaller diameter line will connect to the fuel pickup filter in the tank. The larger line is a return line and has a small plastic fitting on the inside of the tank that keeps it from slipping out. The replacement lines are available from you local mower repair guy or from . If you choose not to tackle this yourself, the local shop will probably charge $25 to $45 for this repair.
Good luck!

hello sir, routing fuel line for craftsman, homelite, ryobi, hedge and line trimmers, fuel tank under engine, looking at machine from rear, shall fuel line on left with filter attached goes to bottom port of carb, fuel line from right side coming out of tank with inside tip attached goes to bottom port of primmer bulb, top line on primmer bulb goes to top port of carb, fuel tank under engine, fuel line routing, looking at machine from left side, left fuel line coming out of tank(drain back only) goes to right side small port of primmer bulb, left side larger fuel line from primmer bulb to top port of carb, fuel line coming out of tank (larger line) on the right side with filter attached goes to bottom port of carb, when replacing fuel line it is very important to use the same ID and OD line the homelite takes a special line that is black in color and a bigger size, the bigger line is ID .08-OD140 small line ID3/32 X 3/16.when the lines dissolve small pieces will get in the carb clogging small passages and screen,it is advisable that you clean out carb, and use a new filter.hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you. if the filter has broken off of the line half way that is where you will run out of fuel, ``

How do you change a craftsman 32cc weedwacker gas filter in the gas tank?

Hi davemac918...
I used a long pair of tweesers to grab the filter, but you can also grab it with a piece of wire with a hook bent on the end of it large enough to fit the tubing the filter is inserted into.
Hook the filter tubing, and pull the filter to the top of the tank and manuver it out of the tank.

This is on a trimmer edger model # 536.796536

You can get rebuild kits from just about any lawn mower/small engine repair shop around. However unless your trimmer has had harsh treatment it most likely only needs a good cleaning. They are pretty simply to disassemble.
Remove the carb from the motor and get a clean spot on a bench or work table. You will need some solvent to soak it in, lacquer thinner works great because it will take care of any gas that may have turned to varnish during storage.
Remove the bottom float bowl attached by the four screws. Inside you will see the float. It is held in place by a pin that can be pushed out. Be careful not to lose the small wire clip that holds the valve pin to the float. After you have the float and valve out let everything soak over night. Using a small screwdriver (cheap jewelers drivers work best) wrap a piece of scottch pad or fine steel wool around the end and twist it into th port where the valve was. If you have a compressor blow it out the other ports and holes or a can of brake clean if no compressor and reassemble. It's also a good idea to clean out the fuel tank.
This will take care of 80% of problems with small engines. Any other trouble is most likely an issue it being worn out.
Hope this helps.

Craftsman 32cc would not idle

If you are certain that you have correcting gaped the plug then the next step is to readjust the low end idle carburetor. If you look you should see two holes in the plastic cover that lead to the flow adjustment screws they may even be out in the open. If they are not labeled H and L (the L is the one you want), check your manual for the correct one. A good place to start is turning the screw all the way in then backing it out 1 1\2 turns. Then check it. If you still have problems do 1\4 turns out. After about one full turn from that you might want to consider taking the carburetor off and removing the float bowl or the bottom for a good cleaning. A sticking float could cause problems with your fuel flow.
Hope this helps.

Repairing fuel line on craftsman 32cc weed trimmer.

Cut the end of the line at a sharp angle. Spray WD-40 on the line and fuel tank hole. Slowly screw the line in the tank far enough so you can connect the fuel filter if you are replacing that line. If not just push the line into the tank if you have a two line system. Remember on the fuel primer, the long tip has the line going to the tank, and the short tip has the fuel line going to the carb.
