Panasonic DMR-E85H DVD Recorder Logo
Posted on May 05, 2008

Defect After two years with good performance and no problems, a fault appeared. Each time a DVD was loaded the recorder turned itself off, and then after ten minutes it would turn on with the message Loading, then turn itself off again. This would be repeated 6 or 7 times, before it finally operated properly. But the gaps before turning itself on became steadily longer. It now turns off for days at a time. We have tried unplugging from power, and holding down the power button for ten seconds, but to no avail. A Sky repairman doing other work said that Panasonic was notorious for this problem, and that it would be too expensive to repair! Please help.

The PSU had to be replaced on my E85H (fortunately under extended warranty) because it too kept Self Checking over and over again.

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder. Fault code U61 is showing which is supposed to correct itself but is not clearing.

Only if it's worth it to you, if the unit was fairly cheap, no I would not recommend it, a new unit would give a brand new warranty making it more pleasing, since you had it fixed before it is time to replace.

My LG RH265 keeps opening the tray. When I close it with the remote, it opens itself again. This problem repeats itself on and on. What can I do about this, is there a way to reset the recorder?

My RH265 has had this fault three times and on each occasion LG have replaced the 815V DVD Deck (Part No. EAZ34934813) - This fault seems to be common to all their recorders and in my view gives LG an otherwise undeserved very bad name for product reliability. I am very surprised that they do not appear to have solved the problem with a reliable component.

LG DR6921W DVD Recorder. Unit will not recognise DVD discs (Blank or commercially recorded)but will recognise and play audio CD's. Unit is 3 years old.

That is most common problem of DVD player recorder, when getting old cannot read DVD discs, only video cd and audio cd,sometimes does'nt read video cd also. The problem is in inside of the unit the DVD processor is defected already or maybe the solder is crack, need to resolder again or reheat the processor solder, or that processor change with a new one,so the performance will back again, good as new.The lense of that unit is good,i can assure that.

If you still have a warranty on the Dvd recorder send it in for Repair. It's either a Factory Defect or a sort in the control switch.

SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.

Disc tray cannot be opened

Hi, The unit is in initialization/reset mode immediately after powerup. It does a self diagnostic sequence. When a fault is detected, it actually locks up till the fault is removed/repaired. A couple of things you can do: 1. Unplug the unit from the mains for a couple of hours; 2. Check your manual if there is a hard/full reset sequence/button and perform it; 3. Remove the topcover and inspect the loading tray. There is a possibility that a CD is stuck, lodged or skewed inside; 4. There is also a possibility that the loading mechanism is stuck, defective belt/gear; 5. if the unit is still under warranty, require service or replacement; or 6. if no longer under warranty, seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
