Can an Apple Computer guru please tell me how to prevent iCal from launching on log-in? This launch started quite recently, for no apparent reason, and I can't identify the procedure to cancel it. Thanks/

    Hi "marked":
I knew a guru at FixYa would help me.... Would you believe I'm still waiting for a response from the applicable Apple Support topic forum! Anyway, having applied your second solution I'm delighted to say it has worked like a charm. I freely admit I'd never have figured it out on my own. VMTs.

Thanks lyzmorato for kindly responding to my question. In fact I should have marked my question as satisfactorily dealt with, after I responded to an earlier suggestion from another guru; but your suggestion is much appreciated.

Marker's second suggestion worked like a charm, and iCal no longer appears when I log on. A much appreciated, and very speedy response.

There are a couple of different ways to do this. If the program is already running you can hold down your (left) mouse button on its Dock icon and choose "Open at Login" from the pop up menu. However, the best way to manage these is in "Login Items" tab of the Accounts Preference Pane in your System Preferences. From there you should be able to see ICal and just unchecked it there.

Hello,

If it is started at login, all you have to do is to right click on the iCal icon at the dock and then select OPTIONS. "Open at Login" should be unchecked.

Hope this helps you out.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Password Recovery Disk

Hi,

Take preventive measures against losing user-level passwords.

It doesn't matter if you never again remember a Windows user password. Thanks to XP's Forgotten Password Wizard, your conscience will be free and clear -- should your mind happen to accidentally misplace your user password.

I highly suggest you create a password recovery disk the minute you create your user account. Why? In order to create a password recovery disk you're going to need your password. Write it down the minute you create your user account and then proceed to creating your very own password recovery disk.

Here's how to launch the Forgotten Password Wizard:

Single-click Start menu, Control Panel, and User Accounts.
Click your user account name.
Under Related Tasks on the left, click "Prevent forgotten password" to launch the wizard.

Now that you've launched the wizard, let it walk you through creating the recovery disk. Make sure the disk you use is formatted and in the drive. After it's finished creating the disk, label it and stash it away for an emergency.

If you happen to forget your password, all you need to do is click your user icon at the logon screen. Even though you don't have your password, go ahead and click the green arrow just like you would to finish logging on to your computer. This will launch a little yellow dialog box directing you to use your password recovery disk.

Good luck!

My ipod was locked due to incorrect password. i forgot the password now, please help

The iPod lock is a four-digit code that prevents unauthorized users from changing settings and configurations on your device. When your iPod is locked, it does not display contents onscreen and is unusable until your enter the code. If you have forgotten your code, you can unlock your iPod in one of two ways--by connecting it to the computer you used to set it up or restoring the iPod's default factory settings.

b> Launch the iTunes program on your computer and click "Help" on the main menu. Scroll down and click "Check for updates." Close iTunes. Connect your iPod to the computer using the supplied USB cable. Launch iTunes, which will display your iPod on the left panel. Right-click your iPod in the iTunes program and click "Eject." Close iTunes and detach your player from the computer to unlock it. Restoring your iPod Connect your player to the computer and launch iTunes. Click your iPod on the left panel and click the "Summary" tab. Click "Restore." Click "Backup" to save your current settings and select the restore option you want to use. Select Option 3 or 4 if you want to install the newest iPod software. Follow the prompts to finish the restoration and rename your iPod to restore the default factory settings.

Hard drive disappeared from my desktop

Hello,
This should help.

Launch ScriptEditor and copy and paste this into the script window:

tell application "System Events"

set visible of disk "NameofDisk" to true

end tell

tell application "Finder" to quit

delay 1

tell application "Finder" to launch

Replace NameofDisk with the actual name of your disk, hit the Compile icon to make sure the script didn't acquire any errors, and then hit run. This should set the visible attribute back to visible and quit and relaunch the Finder, thus making the change available.

The same thing can happen to other drives, both internal and external. You can use the same Applescript to fix those as well, just put in the name of the drive.
