I'm guessing when you say screened and unscreened you mean shielded or unshielded. Shielded wire is used when there is a higher possibility of electrical or RF interference. In a typical household those type of interferences are uncommon. As far as the Cat.5e or Cat. 6 decision, Cat 5e is tested to 150 Mhz. compared to a 250 Mhz. rating on Cat. 6 therefore with future speeds in mind I'd go with the Category 6.

I need networking cables, which cables are best for use.

CAT6 cables & jacks are better than CAT5E.
CAT5E cables & jacks are better than CAT5.
CAT5 cables & jacks are better than CAT3.
CAT3 cables have problems going faster than 10Mbit/second.
CAT5 cables support 100Mbit/second, and seem to work with 1000Mbit/second ("gigabit") devices.

If it has one, check the external power supply - it may be dying or dead. Try replacing it.
If it doesn't have one connected, connect one.

Get a cat5e or cat6e, connect the 360 to a router with that. Then, connect the router to your DSL or cable modem with another cat5e or cat6e cable unless your modem has a router built into it, then connect it directly to the modem. Then play!

Well see Cat5 & Cat6 are different spec's and are wired differently...They have different wires inside the cable. You would be able to use the actual Wires, BUT they will have to be wired to the "Other" standard in the Outlet Jacks. Either that or get one that works on Cat6. http://www.connectworld.net/syscon/support.htm

You can purchase as much ethernet cable as you need. You can purchase pre-made ethernet (cat5e) cable at circuit city, best buy, compusa etc. for not too much money. They usually sell in up to 50 or 100 foot rolls, if thats how much you'll need. If you're going over 100 feet I'd suggest going with cat6 cable, instead of cat5 because it can handle longer distances better.
