It sounds like you're in scientific or engineering notation.

Press MODE, use the arrow keys to highlight "NORMAL" on the first line, press ENTER and then 2ND [QUIT].

Why is my ti84 giving me wrong answers when I use trig functions?

Your right you should be in degree mode. However, my guess is you are somehow entering in cot wrong in your calc. Recall cot = 1/tan! In your graphing calculator enter: 35(1/tan(61) = 19.4.
Hope this helped!

That is what I get with your numbers on the TI84 Plus Silver Edition 0.1870313608. I get the same on the TI83 Plus. What can I say?. Apart from an error entering the numbers ( a 6 for a 9, a 3 for an 8) I cannot think of anything else. Sorry.

My TI84 plus silver edition calculator is giving me an incorrect sign whenever I do an exponential function. When I type in -25^2, it gives me -625 instead of 625. How do I fix this?

It's giving you the correct answer. It's calculating the negative of 25 squared. 25 squared is 625, and the negative of that is -625.

If you want to calculate the square of negative 25, you need to tell the calculator that.

Press ( (-) 2 5 ) ^ 2 ENTER .

Make sure you have the proper angular mode set. The TI-84 can work with degrees or radians.

Press MODE to bring up the mode screen. Use the arrow keys to highlight either "Radian" or "Degree" on the third line and press ENTER. Press 2ND [QUIT] to exit the mode screen.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post giving an example of a calculation and the answer you're getting from the calculator.

When I type a problem into the TI84 it will give me the answer with an Error. Example, I type in 2+2 and get 4E0. This happens with everything I enter into the calculator. How to I fix this?

Sorry, but it takes sometime to be well familiar with the calculator. The E in the result is a short-hand notation for times 10 to a power. What you got is 4x10^(0) which is just 4.
Your calculator is doing that because it is configured to display result in SCIENTIFIC format.
To revert to the format you may be more accustomed to,
  1. Press the [MODE] key
  2. The first line of the displayed screen will show NORMAL SCI ENG and the cursor blinking on SCI or ENG.
  3. Use the left arrow to highlight NORMAL and press ENTER.
  4. Press [2nd][MODE] to (QUIT) and go to main calculator screen.

Why do some TI83 program work on a TI84 plus and other don't?

Ti 83 and ti84 really have no difference and operate the same. There was something different or you had varibles used by multiple programs that conflicted w/ the ti84 and it would have done the same on the ti83. If you like to rework it and need help email me at raklein62@yahoo.com
