Your solution seems to have solved my problem and I am very grateful. It was money well spent and I will keep this service in mind for future snags in my computer use.

  • wayne357 Aug 26, 2010

    Problem is gone!

  • wayne357 Aug 26, 2010

I have successfully burnt 2 new projects since your solution. On my third, I received the same error message. Is there a longer-term fix or will I need to keep defragg'ing?

First defragment your partitions (Hard disk partitions) and retry. I hope you know how to defragment partitions. Simply right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and then on the left pane of the "Computer Management" windows, click "Disk Defragmenter". Now on the right-pane, click on the partition you are going to defragment, and click "Defragment", the process will begin with the status of the progress.

After all the partitions are defragmented, restart your computer and try again.

If the problem persists, try burning the project using another media (another cd or dvd of different make/brand).

Still the problem persists, then try burning the project into your computer using the feature "Image File" (you'll see this option once you click the burn button, [where you select the Source or destination]).

Let me know when you are done, i'll assist you further.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Ok.. good to hear that it's fixed.. You should at least run a defragment once a moth. That'll be sufficient. Good luck.

Once again thanks for using FixYa.

No power light even though its connected to power outlet

Based on the limited info, it sounds like your receiver has a blown fuse, or other damaged component in the power circuit. Try unplugging the receiver from power, and let it sit overnight to be safe before opening it up. Look for any glass fuses, and test for its rated value. This could be a easy fix. Also look for signs of damage on the circuit board, such as burnt or charred components, or funny smell of burnt electrical components.
If this is above your skill level, seek a qualified repair shop. Most shops can diagnose in about 30 mins.

Good luck!

  • Another reason for seeing too many FCS errors may be that the remote end has stopped talking PPP.

In Roxio Creator 10, I attempt to burn a disk of a slide show. I receive an error message 8004520C When I check production it reports no problem. This is repeatable.

Generally, defragmenting your hard disk will resolve this issue. To defragment your computer:

  1. Go to Start--> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defragmenter.
  2. When the Disk Defragmenter window opens, choose Defragment.

If defragmentation doesn't resolve the issue, burn your project as a data file, and then burn your project as a data disc using Disc Copier or Creator Classic. To create a disc image/data file:

  1. After clicking the Burn button, the Burn Project window opens.
  2. You have two data burning options:
    • Image file - this option will save your project as an .ISO file. To burn this file you will need to use the Burn Image option in Creator's Copy section.
    • Folder Set - burning a folder set will create a Video_TS folder that you can burn using Creator Classic. Burning a folder set to DVD will create a fully functional DVD. Do NOT rename the Video_TS folder other wise it will not play! Simply place it in a folder that is the name of your project if you need to keep track.

I receive "failure writing to disc" message as I try to burn slideshow to dvd within the program

SlideShow Expressions can develop problems when the photos are too large and when the project your trying to burn is quite large as well. What is too large? I can only speak from own experience. I found that once a project gets into the range of 400 or more photos (total) my writer fails to write. (However, I've burned projects containing up to 388 successfully; photos at original size.) This can be solved by resizing your photos. I have a project with 466 photos (10 chapters) that wouldn't burn to disc. I then resized the photos so that every single one was under 500 KB. It worked: burning is now successful. Resizing doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of your photos will drop. I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager and, really, visually there is no difference between the original photos and the resized photos in the slideshow project. Experiment with photo size. Maybe another size works for you. It is also known that chosing the archive option (having the original photos and music burned to the disc) can upset the burning process - but only really when it's a very large project. Also, you could be using the wrong type of disc. I've been using DVD+R.

Intermittently, the confirmation page on the fax says the fax failed (didn't go thru) but it actually did. Why is this? The confirmation page is printing false results, indicating the fax failed to go...

This is because some faxes don't have Error Correction Mode capabilities.

If there's a slight distortion on the line, the receiving machine (without ECM) receives a fax with some minor errors. And even though for a human eye the resulting fax page is perfectly readable, for the machine, that thinks only zeros and ones, there was an error detected in the data, and hence the trasmission failed.
Faxes with ECM when they detect an error, ask the sending fax to re-send the last portion of data, and this way can bring the transmission to a 100% successful end.

So the only thing you can do is ask your recipients to upgrade their fax machines to an ECM-capable model :)

Comm error 252

Hi,

The comm error 252 occurs due to,

  • Telephone line conditions were too poor to receive a fax.
This error can be rectified by

  1. Reattempt the fax reception at a later time when line conditions may have improved.
  2. Configure the machine to start reception at a lower speed.
  3. If the local machine successfully received several pages of a larger document, ask the remote user to transmit the document in several smaller parts.

Onkyo TX-DS989 not staying on

This sounds like the action of some protection circuit that is monitoring some condition or voltage that isn't within its design limits. If it was mine, I'd look for an Onkyo forum to see if others have experienced the same problem.

Left channel not working

The first thing I would check has already been done, the only other thing would be fuses. I am preety sure there is a protection fuse at ever channels output to protect against a dead short. I am sure you have already fixed this problem but I thought I would give it a try. Let me know what you found.

Check the rated impedance of your speakers. Use the manufacturer's rating. Don't try to measure it with an ohmmeter. This should be printed on the rear panel. If not, check your manual if you have one. The receiver probably shouldn't be connected to speakers rated any lower than 6 Ohms. If the speakers are 6 or higher, check your wires and connections for any stray strands that could be causing a short. I also have to wonder what "increase the volume substantially" means. Are we talking potential hearing damage? Maybe the receiver is saving you from your self.
