I also have 2 VE901b viewsonic LCD monitors, both did the same thing first went just after a year and the other lasted 2 years. they run perfectly fine and without any warning they go blank trying to come back on. you will see a flicker of the screen for a tenth of a second then black for a couple seconds. power light is on when thescreen flickers on and off when screen is black. would like to be able to fix if possible just need help to determine what part i need to replace I suspect the power supply or inverter

Mine always stays black. The only sign of life is when I first plug it in the little green light goes on for a second and then nothing. The manufacturer gave it a 3 year warranty. Does anyone know if walmart sold this unit? If so you can always take it back there for credit, even without a receipt.

Green LED comes one for 2 seconds when you first plug in the monitor to power but then there is nothing and the LED goes off.

SOURCE: LCD Monitor turns off or goes blank after a couple of seconds being on

An all too common problem with lcd's, you would think they would be more reliable after being on the market for years, alas they are not. See if it does the same thing on a friends PC if you are able; if so the you will know the lcd is faulty.

SOURCE: LCD Monitor has no video

Sounds your monitor has either blown a backlight or the inverter board is bad. Either way they can both be replaced, but tracking down the parts will be a bit difficult. But your LCD Monitor is in trouble! Sorry!

SOURCE: Monitor flashes image for split second then goes blank but green LED flashes as well

while the monitor is still powered on, but with the LED flashing, unplug the monitor from the PC. press the power button, and the monitor should go off, now plug the pc back into the monitor. Turn the monitor back on and it should work.

Occasionally this will not work for me, but if I repeat it it normally works

Hope this helps - my problem is intermitant so it may be different to what u guys have

I just had the same thing, blinking green led. I changed the 2 1000uF 16v capacitors on the power board and back in business!

SOURCE: How do you remove the outer case on Viewsonic VG930M-3 LCD

kauffman014, As far as opening the monitor up you may want to visit YOUTUBE and search for lcd monitor repair/ disassembling monitor/ or something like that. I did see a 9-11 min video there that was fairly good on un-snapping the rear cover from the front bezel of what I think was a DELL unit. Also visit electronicrepairguide.com run by a jestine yong. don't pay any attention to his ad to purchase repair course in lcd/fpd servicing!! only look at the pic's of the insides of lcd monitors and the power supply boards/inverter boards. On gateway's, and dell monitors the pedestal must be unscrewed from the rear cover first. The pedestal is really screwed down to the steel FPD chassis that covers the circuit boards and provides a ridgid mounting surface for the unit as a whole. Work on a flat surface with screen facing down on a blanket or lots of newspaper to prevent maring of the FPD!
There should be some phillips screws that fasten the steel shield to the left/right sides of the FPD frame. Once you get down to looking at the Switch-Mode-Power-Supply (smps) board look for large filter capacitors (electrolytic polarized aluminum can) that have the tops of them bulging upward as compared to normal ones that are flat. You will also need to inspect the bottom (solder side) of the board where all the leads of the components from the top side are soldered. You are looking for very thin hairline 'thermal' and or 'vibration' circular FRACTURES around the leads of the larger and bulkier (heavy) components. Yeah...use a big magnifying glass or better yet a 10x or 20x inspection microscope. One last thing, I highly recomend taking digital pic's as you disassemble the unit so it can be put together again without leftover parts. hope this info helps you out. Get back to me if you find out anything. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com BYE for now.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

The backlight inverter is failing or the power supply feeding it is not good.

I have a ViewSonic VE910b 19" That the display stays black

What your both experiencing is a slow degradation of the inside light bulbs. Just like what happens to regular fluorescent bulbs, they slowly flicker out.

Best to buy a new monitor.

Take apart your old one, you'll find burnt out bullbs on the upper and lower chassis deep inside.

But few times in the past my LCD didnt show up the display though the Green light was still ON, turning off the LCD and opening it again always solved the problem. But now My LCD completely went blank. Turning off/on didnt work at all now. I've tried couple of other tweaks mentioned on this site but they didnt work. I am just seeing a blank screen with green light ON. and ya theres a very low hissing sound coming from the LCD.

ViewSonic VA721 monitor

this is only an educated guess based on my years of computer and electrinics experiance. I believe the problem is the AC inverter that supplies current to the monitors back light,it powers up and fails. the monitor is working but without the back light you get a blank screen. The problem is fixable, but the delema is that for a technician to troubleshoot and repair the problem may cost as much as replacing the monitor since the prices have dropped so much in the last few years.
