This a defect with the brand and what has happened is the clock board has overheated and burned out, sometimes they will work again once they have cooled completely, but most of the time they will need to be replaced, You can contact whirlpool and they may ship the part for free since this is a well known issue to them.

Viking deso175ss ran self clean cycle, tried to stop the cycle early. oven door locked wont reset. tried turning power on/off. was able to get door open by pushing latch to left, however it still will not...

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I understand you have a Vking oven that is not unlocking after stopping (interupting) a self clean cycle, correct ? (I think the letters in the model should be "DSOE" as opposed to deso, aren't they ?)

Though this can cause issue's with the lock mechanism, it is unlikely anything was damaged...in my opinion of course, thus I don't think you need to start swapping parts.

If this hasn't already been done, I would suggest prepairing your oven as if everything was status quo for a self clean cycle.

Close the door, select self clean and let it go through it's start-up and lock sequence. Your going to stop it again, just as Viking instructs pressing "off" which should allow the lock mechanism to properly lock and then unlock.

During the clean cycle the unit usually has to cool before allowing for the door to open which can take up to 30 minutes, (this is why it counts down from 4 hrs even though the cycle is 3.5 hours) but since it should already be cool I'm hoping the lock will go a full revolution to it's normal position.

Normally these ovens will go through a self check sequence upon a power up (if power was lost and then restored...aka "onboard watchdog") which should include the lock assembly rotating to it's unlock position, but they can get out of sequence at times in my experience.

The other method I've tried and had success with is having a secone person hold the door switch closed while power is turned off and then restored a few minutes later.

Let me know if you have tried that and if not try it and get back to me. Hopefully that will restore it's proper function. Good luck.

Macmarkus :)

Did the self clean and now the oven door will not unlock

Hi
Door is not unlocking as the control has detected a problem with door latch switch or the cycle was interupted in between. Switch off the power and unplug it from the mains. Check after 5-6 minutes whether you are able to unlock the door. If the error is still there then once again start the self clean cycle. Press the self-clean button to start the cycle. The panel becomes blank (---), then press the up arrow (^). The panel will appear 3:00 (indication for the duration of self-cleaning). The oven will lock on its own and start the self-cleaning. After self cleaning is done wait for 15-20 minutes and open the door. Try moving the latch manually to unlock it. Please post back for any further assistance...

I ran the self-cleaning and the door will not open.

Unplug the unit or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
or
Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
If these procedures fail to correct the condition, the lock must usually be accessed and moved manually to open the door.
Some model ovens require the oven door to be manually unlatched before the controls are returned to the OFF position or else the door may not be able to be unlocked. Check the owner's manual for proper operating procedures.

Ran the self cleaning cycle on my Kithen Aid electric range and once the cycle finished the touch pad would not unlock, the oven door unlocked but none of the touch pad will work except for the the button...

This is a common problem with all self cleanig ranges. The 1200+ degree heat will sometimes leak up into the control panel and damage components. Try turning the power off first for 30 minutes and see if the control resets itself. If it doesn't have directions on the panel, then check you owners manual to see if their is a certain procedure you use to unlock your contols. If none of these work you will need to have a technician come out to diagnose your elecronic range contol or you touch pad. Good Luck Appliance Specialists

My oven is locked and wont open. it is cold and wont unlock

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The locking of the oven is a safety measure while self clean function is activated. Once the oven has completed the cycle & has cooled down, then it will reset the door lock.

If a self clean oven door lock fails to open after the self clean cycle and sufficient cooling time has elapsed (approximately 1 hour), there are several things you can try.
  1. Unplug the unit or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
  2. Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
If these procedures fail to correct the condition or you were not using the self clean cycle, then, the lock must usually be accessed and moved manually to open the door—

In order to open the door you have to open the control panel and remove the door lock.

Remove the three screws from the bottom of the control panel. You'll heed a 1/4" open wrench. Pull the bottom of the control panel toward yourself and push it up to release from the upper tabs.
The door lock is secured by the three screws.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.
Thanks

Oven won't heat

Unplug the power cord for thirty minutes, this should reset the oven.
If this still does not work do the following:
Press clean and then cancel. This will reset the appliance.

If the error does not clear , then during the self cleaning cycle, the high temperature has probably damaged the temperature sensor probe, and it must be replaced.

Oven door locked

First check to see if you activated the "child lock-out". See your manual to deactivate.

You could also try unplugging the unit, or trip the circuit breaker in your home which supplies power to the oven. Wait 5 minutes and turn power back on. This will reset the controls.

Good luck!
