When I push the start button for the dryer, nothing happens. Once I turn the dial and set the amount of time, cycle, etc. and push the button, I can hear the "ticking sound" but I push the button and it won't come on. I unplugged the dryer and plugged it back in and it still does not work.

dryer has power. I reset the breaker and the light goes on inside the drum when you open the door. I checked the door switch and the start button and they both seem to be doing what they are supposed to be doing. At the first sign of a problem you had to press the start button a couple of times before the dryer stayed 'started'. After a while that no longer worked and now it just doesn' start.

I have a Roper Dryer and I hear the ticking, but it will not start. What could be wrong with it?

The dryer won't start when I push the start button. But breaker is fine, the light is on inside, and the timer rotates and resets freely.

Dryer not running after start turned

do you mean that if you hold in the start button it will run but when you let it go it stops,if so you have a bad belt pulley switch.it's a safety so if the belt breaks the dryer won't run,all it is is a cherry switch,a black switch with a white button sticking out of it,the belt pulley hits it and pushes the button in but the switch fails internally or the belt is broke,if the belt isn't broke replace the belt pulley switch.

Won't start

2 reasons a dryer won't start, either the door is not closed (or the door switch is bad), or the belt that turns the drum broke. The dryer has a switch on it that will shut off the dryer and keep it from starting if the belt is broken.
