I have a Philips DVD Model 711/171. Will I be able to play a DVD manufactured in the UK for Region 2 players? My DVD has a '1' inside a globe symbol on the back of the machine.

Hi,

If region 1 appears on the back of your player, you could only play DVD meant for region 1.If you want to play DVD for region 2, you need to get it unlocked.

For unlock, you could follow a trick :-

You need an OneForAll6 remote (URC 7560)

  1. Press DVD device button (set remote to DVD)
  2. Press and hold MAGIC until it flashes 2x
  3. Enter Setup Code (0539)
  4. Press MAGIC again
  5. Enter 085
  6. Enter 222 222 005 255
  7. (should be displayed)
  8. Press PLAY
for the remote "SBC RU880":
  1. Press and hold 1 and 6 until SYNTH is displayed.
If remain unlocked even after this, then there is a hardware option. However, not worth spending the amount as these are hit and trial options.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I have a Phillips DVDR70 player. It only plays dvds bought in UK. I have some dvd's I got from USA and can't play them. Is there any way to overide the operating system which will allow the Us dvd's to...

You need to unlock the player before it will play discs from other regions. UK has region 2 discs while the US has region 1.

Search on Google for your DVD model and unlock code.
Dial in the code using your remote and you should then be able to play any region discs from around the world.

Can I play a dvd region 2 dvd on a Philips 5 disc changer 783c dvd player? its a uk release of a german film. The DVD player gives system menu selections stating many nationalities

just because it may have many languages does not mean it is multi-region.

what you need to do is search for "region free hack" and the model of your player.

If there is one for your player the process takes less than 30 seconds to do (did on my single play philips which is region free whoo hoo)

beware though you may have to spend some time finding the free codes and there are a lot of sites out there that want to charge for this info (dont pay just persevere)

The method is usually power on the dvd press eject whilst holding down a key combnation until a menu comes up then selecting 0 ZERO as the region or somthing similar there are variations even from the same manufacturer.

I disagree with the whole region scam and do not class hacking a dvd player as any form of piracy. its simply allowing me the freedom to choose what i watch from whatever country i want.

Convert US DVD in Region 1 to play in UK Region 2

Hello,
Please go to codemasters.com , type in the details of your dvd player, there will be several region code hacks ,follow the instructions and this should work for you, basically you are needing to make your dvd player a multiregion player. all dvd players are multi region at time of manufacture, but they are code set for the county that they are shipped to, hopefully this should help. you can also go on to google type in Hack for whaterver your dvd player is and you will get a region code there.

best Wishes

WRONG Region error . Philips DVD65K

Each DVD player is designed only to read discs froma certian region of the globe, and they are labelled 1 through 6 (or ALL). Australian players are designed only to play Region 4 discs. United States discs are Region 1. It is illegal to change the Region code on a DVD player, so I can't tell you how to do it (ironically, it is the most frequently asked question about dvd players on Fixya.com - global world), but there are videos on YouTube that will show you how to do it - I would just enter "philips region code dvd" as your seacrh term. You won't find that exact model, but one of the codes in the video should work. Note that you will only be able to change the region code three times on a Philips - after that you will be locked out. So change it to Region 1 once, and never change it again.

Wrong region

Hi , The reason for the error message is because your DVD player is set to one specific zone. The below procesure will open the DVD player to play all zones.
TURN ON THE PLAYER
PRESS OPEN/CLOSE
USING REMOTE PRESS STOP-7-3-4-4-6-6
YOUR REGION AREA WILL APPEAR. PRESS "0" TO UNLOCK (OPEN the DVD player to ALL zones) ALL, THEN WAIT. INSERT YOUR DISC. Hope this helps. Let me know the status. Thanks, Mike

Philips 7" DVD portable player

The PET702 will be a region 5 machine, whereas the UK DVDs are region 2.

DVD players from a particular region are designed to play only DVDs from the same region, due to copyright and distribution rights in each country or region.

However the PET702 can have the region protection removed by making it multi-region:

Switch on the PET702 and Open the tray.

Press SETUP button on the remote control, which will bring up the menu.

Highlight "PREFERENCES" and press OK.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [2], [5], [2], [3], [1], [5], [LEFT], [DOWN]

The screen will show: "Region Code: 2"
Press [1-6] to manually set the region OR [0] for multi-region.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [SETUP] to exit winksmiley.gif

You will now be able to play DVDs from anywhere in the world.

This is particularly useful, because region 1 DVDs from the US often come out when the movies are still in the cinemas over here. Region 1 DVDs can be bought perfectly legally by mail order or from the internet.

Programmed for region 2....Need to change to 1

Q: What is Regional Coding enhancement(RCE)?
A: It's a digital enhancement added to some Warner Bros and Columbia DVDs to stop region 1 (R1) DVDs from playing on Region-free DVD players.

Q: What's the difference between Region Coding and RCE?
A: Regional Coding enhancement(RCE) is an additional layer of protection which some studios have placed on select REGION 1 DVDs to prevent them from playing on region-free or multi-region players. Region Coding is a part of the DVD spec which divides the world into 8 regions:
Region 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
Region 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
Region 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
Region 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
Region 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
Region 6: China
Region 7: Reserved
Region 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

Basically, DVDs released in each region will typically only play on players sold in that region. IE a DVD released in the UK *Region 2* would not play on a player sold in the us *Region 1*. You can tell what Region a DVD is coded for by looking at the back of the box for a Globe with a number on it. The number correlates to the region list above. If a DVD is listed as 'Region 0' it means that it isn't coded for any region and should play on ALL regions players.

1. Make sure there is no disc in the player.
2. Turn power off and on again.
3. Open the tray.
4. On the remote, hit 9879 and then 0. This changes unit to Region 0, meaning it'll play all regions.
5. Hit OK on the remote.
