Question about Maytag MBR2556KES / MBL2556KES

1 Answer

I have a may tag MBL2556KES that is not working properly. I replaced the relay overload switch about two months ago when I had a similar problem and that seemed to fix it the first time. I tried that again this time but to no avail. The freezer is basically not keeping things frozen and now the compressor has a buzzing sound followed by a click when it turns off. I am about to junk it and buy a different brand. I have cleaned the coils underneath the fridge the best I can as they are about impossible to get to with any vacuum attachment and a feather duster won't even fit in there. All the fans are working and everything is now defrosted so there isn't any sort of blockage.

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

This is a classic door switch problem. I fixed a friend's MW a few months ago that had this exact symptom. Got a family member's MW going again last summer for similar (not identical) problem.

In our case, one of the switches was broken (shorted). There are usually a group of similar door switches all mechanically ganged together behind the latch. If the MW has a wiring diagram, you can use it to figure out which switch controls the light, fan and turntable. Check the switch with ohm-meter after you get it out. The switch plunger may have lost it's springiness.

You need to be clever mechanically to figure out how to disassemble for the R&R (remove&replace). Don't break plastic mounting pin or you may have to improvise repair for that too!. It may help to have the service manual for your particular model (worth a google search). The switch is probably relatively inexpensive ($5 or so) and a generic replacement should work fine if it has the same-or-higher voltage and current rating.

Refrigerator not cooling what is stopping it?

Does it have power? (does the light come on when you open door)
If it has power is it blowing air inside?

My fridge stopped working a few months ago. It had power but was blowing warm air. After taking the cover off the rear bottom I found the compressor was not turning on. The 'Overload Relay Switch' was burned out... I ordered/replaced (Lowes).. It cost me about $50 and took about 10min to install.. It has been working great since.

I have a Maytag MSD2756GEW. The refigerator side would get warm while the freezer side was still cold. We changed the board in the refrigerator. We thought that would take care of it. A month later...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The knocking sound is most likely worn or improperly positioned vibration aborber grommets that keep the compressor base from striking the mounting lugs. Usually when this happens the gromments need to be either replaced or re-positioned / rotated. Additonally some of the coolant coils may have to re-positioned to prevent the compressor base from striking the compresor mounting lugs. All the PTC relay does switch the power between the compressor start and run windings so the compressor will start and run properly. I suspect that in the process of them replaceing the overload relay that the coolant tubing got bent slightly causing the compressor to twist in the mount against a mounting lug. I would at least try to call Maytag / the same service people that performed the overload replacement and tell them that you have had the knocking ever since the replacement of the overload. They should fix it for free IF you convince them. I.e the symptom was introduced by the repair people.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My frigidaire side by side quit cooling about two months ago i un pluged it cleand everything and let it sit for about 3 days pluged it back in and it worked for almost 2 months now it is not cooling again...

there sunds to me like there is a problem with you defrost ever how need to look for any ice build up in the bottom side of the freezer section.
while the unit is the cooling mode open the freezer door and listen for a fan running if you do not hear a fan running you may need to replace it the door switch should be held in while you are checking this.

then i would alos look at the overload relay and start switch on the compressor.

After starting my 2003 saturn L300 my power windows work for about 10 seconds before dying. This happened about 6 months ago but then seemed to fix themseleves because they worked fine after that. Its now...

If voltage isn't reaching the motor, check the wiring in the circurit for continuity between the switches and motors. You'll need to get a wire diagram for this vechicle. Some power windows circuits are equppped with relays. If equipped, check that the relays are grounded properly and receiving votage from the swithches. also check that each relay sends voltage to the motor when the switch is turned on. If it doesn't replace the relay.

Problems with Tag Heuer 2000 Classic WK1120.BB0314

Explanation is simple: your watch has jammed geartrain or some dirt particles stuck into geartrain. This is why the seconds hand was moving backwards and forwards.
Nothing to do with EOL (End Of Life) feature wich is built into watch microelectronics and signals that this is the time to replace battery by advancing seconds hand two or four seconds at once.
To open the watch you need a proper watch caseback opening tool, but I can't see any reason for doing that as you will not be able to fix the geartrain problem without proper knowledge and skills.
If the warranty of the watch is expired, you don't need a TAG specialist as you will be charged for job anyway. So, find your nearest watchmaker shop and ask for repair.
Do not forget to rate, please.

Problem has returned to Maytag fridge

I note this is a very old post. The compressor is not starting and what you were hearing was the PTC relay energizing followed by the KilXon thermal overload kicking off the compressor start sequence. What happens is that the PTC relays sometimes get a heated contact. Due to the weakened state of the contact it can cause a buzz. Even with a goo PTC relay you would hear the compressor buzz if it was not starting. In that case the run capacitor may have failed or the compresor rotor is internally locked at which point the start cycle will repeat every 3 to 4 minutes as the thermal overload cycles and the compressor will not start.

Thanks for choosing FixYa

Compressor & Relay

If the compressor does not run, it is an electrical issue. The relay might be bad. Is there power going to the relay/ compressor? Use a volt sensor to determine this. Before I would replace the compressor I'd replace the relay. "Johnstone Supply" has refrigerator parts. Is it clean? It almost sounds like the "overload" has tripped and is not resetting.
