That depends on the heat load in the room and the size of the portable air conditioner. The air conditioner will provide a 15 – 20 degree temperature drop. So if your room is 80 degrees Fahrenheit, then the air coming out of the air conditioner will be 60 – 65 degrees Fahrenheit. As the room cools, the temperature of the air coming from the air conditioner will also drop. The temperature you are able to maintain in the room will depend on the heat load in the room.

You can use the standard, ON - OFF controls, add a standard, electronic thermostat, a programmable electronic thermostat or, the Cadillac of Tstats, the internet/network ready thermostat which can be monitored and programmed on your computer network or remotely from any internet connection.

Hope helps.

It should still be in warranty, even if it is slightly past the 12 month period a phone call to the supplier might bring a pleasant surprise. It really should have lasted longer

Tip

Free heat from your own furnace

to greatly increase the efficiency of all forced air heating systems use aluminum duct tape and tape all joints in the ductwork The hot air ducting from the furnace right to the register in the floor or walls should be air tight to keep heat from escaping .Also the cold air returns and all associated ducting should be taped at all joints to ensure maximum air flow . Taping all ducting will not only provide more heat to all rooms of your house it will also produce less dust from leaking cold air ducting which sucks in air and dust from areas typically not cleaned (wall and floor cavities) . I did this in my older home and found I had to close off some registers because of the huge increases of volume which provided extra heat volume for the rooms that needed it.The house is now consistantly warm in all parts

When set to heat it blows out cool air.

Chances are your portable unit is a reverse cycle unit...If so, the leaving air temp in heating mode is not usually much warmer than room temp with 85 degrees F just about the maximum under PERFECT design conditions. A small portable in a large cold room may only be discharging 75 degree air, which is going to feel cold.

If your unit is NOT a reverse cycle unit, the heating source (probably electric resistance) is either not coming on at all or a portion of it is not coming on due to a defective element, burnt wire or a control issue.

Not as cold as it used to be

Check evaporator coil, air filter and blower fan are cleaned. If not service the unit. Keep temp minimum 3 degree less than room temp and maximum as u need. And check run with mentioned amps. If not check gas pressure for leak or short of gas. Then rectify. Service ur a/c and check. If still problem, call repairman to check and rectify as I mentioned above.Thanks.

Our chest freezer is as cold on the outside as it is on the inside. this makes the room very cold. It is a whirlpool freezer and is 15 years old. do we need to buy a new one?

No refrigerator/freezer can make a room cold unless it vents the heat outside that room. If yours really does make room cold without venting heat outside of the room, I'll buy it from you for $100000 and become too famous to post here ;))) What you describe here is against the physics laws ;)))

Rinnai Energy Saver 302 convection gas heater has been located in old blocked off fireplace & keeps turning off as the fireplace gets too hot when the rest of the room is still cold. Can I move it...

Energysavers have fixed flue lengths, more likely your problem is the thermistor at the bottom left of the heater inside the grille getting a false temp reading. Look for yellow wire with a black bulb (like a drop of water). measure the air temp next to it while heater running, if its above room temp down there the heater will turn off early. It needs to be clean and have unobstructed air flow over it for it to work correctly.

The window unit is turned on, but doesnt seem to be very strong with blowing cold air . is there something that can be checked on the unit? something that can be replaced on the unit-like a filter? since...

first make sure the filter and coils are clean, then be sure you have it set for recirculate and not outside air allowance, and if ou wait til the room is very hot it will take a while to cool that room down to a comfort level. the fan and temperature control should both be at maximum if the room is very hot.

Back up electric heater required.

A bit late for you probably Steve, but other browsers might be interested...

Micathermics are faster to warm up the room than other resistive heaters, but otherwise they're no more efficient - so it depends whether you feel that the fast warm up is worth the extra money that the micathermic would cost.

If your ceiling is well insulated (including over the wall plates at the top of the internal walls) then the large windows are very likely the reason that your underfloor heating can't get the heat high enough. Have you considered double glazing? 3M have a very cheap, disposable window insulation kit that you could put on for a cold season to see if it's worth putting in some more permanent double glazing (and in fact that kit will probably last 2 or 3 cold seasons if you just leave it up).

The heater power (kW) required to get that extra 2 degC depends on how well the room is insulated. Your best bet would be to find out how much kW your underfloor heating is putting out and how much degC it is warming up the room, then keep the same proportions to work out how much extra kW you need.
