My typewriter is printing the wrong letters even though I've installed a new typewriter ribbon and wheel. I type "SALES" and it says "098hjq". What could be the problem?

"If your unit is not printing properly:
1.Ensure the ribbon cartridge has not run out of ribbon. If your ribbon appears silver or gray, install a new cartridge.
2.Ensure the black lever in the center of the carriage is pressed to therear towards the paper. If not, press it to the rear to lock the Daisy Wheel into place.
3.Reset the unit by holding down the [CODE] Key and pressing the [SHIFT]Key and the [WORD OUT] Key.
4.Release all three keys.
5.Try typing.
If the problem continues, your unit will need servicing. You can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center in your area: http://www.brother-usa.com
Try typing on a mulipart form. If it types on the copies and not the orinonal the ribbon is the problem. If it dosen't type on the copies then the plastic cap on the print solenoid is broken.
We sell the cap with installation instructions for 20.00 includes shipping.
alot of the brother t/w's have 2 cam assemblies under ribbon holder. 1 operates the print hammer and 1 operates the correction ribbon lift. sometimes these will hang or lockup. sometimes turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a t/w tech. if you look when you type a character, most likely the print hammer is not firing or it is striking the correction ribbon instead of the black ribbon.
turn the power off. Remove the ribbon and print wheel & corr tape. turn the power on close cover let it home. open cover install the print wheel & ribbon try typing. if works reinstall the corr. tape. if not there will be a switch with 10.12.maybe 15 or PS make sher the pitch is in the same number as the print wheel. hope this works. C.W.H.
the mark you are seeing is the print hammer hitting the paper. remove the ribbon. corr. tape & print wheel. turn on the typewriter. close cover let it home it's self. open cover put in print wheel. close cover let it nome. put in ribbon close cover. try typing if marks are still ther. you will need a new print wheel. if working then put in corr. tape or if you are better at spelling then me you will not need it
could be the ribbon is not lifting, do you see an image on the ribbon, also may be twisted inside the cartridge the shiny side has to be facing the keyboard.
