Very old unit,I inherited from my brother 9 years ago and have used it without data cable (never even realized it had one til I started reading up!).Just quits working,no alarm, seems to be warmer than normal, resumes working after cool down.Moved from within desk compartment to top of desk for better air circulation.Still failed with no alarm. Is it my battery? Fuse looks good. Thank you Rebecca

I have a Meade ETX-70AT scope that I inherited from a neighbor years ago. It came with two eye pieces (9 and 25 mm), a tripod, and an Autostar which I believe is the #494 model. On the bottom of the...

The hand controller cable is probably defective-- right at the connector that plugs into the scope. Any computer network "wizard" can replace the connector. The wires must be in the exact same sequence when he repairs it.

If this simple fix does not work and you KNOW that the batteries are good-- then the hand controller is defective and will need to be replaced.

Unable to clean Error 46

Here's the instruction for ALL brother inkjet printers (mfc/dcp is equal) when printer shows unable to clean (error 46)

You need a new ink absorber box which can be purchased from a brother service partner near your home.
Search the brother homepage of your country:
www.brother.com (choose your country)

If you have got the spare part (ink absorber box) you have to open the printer:

http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/inside.html#Brother_mfc215c
(use google for translation german)

Do NOT clean the old one! It cant be cleaned: The felt wont take up ink anymore and will stain the machine from inside and the furniture beneath the printer.

After replacing the eeprom of the printer needs reset:

(dcp: use arrow-up and set key to choose the digits. e.g. arrow-up til 8 then set arrow up til 0 then set
mfc: use the fax-number keys.
Stop-button will always go back to maintenance, if you have done wrong)

press menu then start bk-copy then fourtimes arrow up quickly after another.

machine will switch to maintenance mode and light(s) will flash.

press 8 0

press start bk-copy until PURGE 64xx

press 2 7 8 3

Purgecount will be 0000

Press stop

press 9 9 to leave the maintenance mode.

After the mfc/dcp comes up again in normal state the error has disappeared

SONY DVD RW AW-Q170A not working....

one reason may be that your writer may be old and the lense must have died.

another is that the lense require cleaning.

the last one is that you need to upgrade the drivers and firmware for your sony writer which you will get here.

http://sony.storagesupport.com/models/21

If all the above things dont work, replace it.

Brother dcp117c

Hi Jay,

let me guess, your dcp is about 2,5 years old, right? You have used generic ink carts and very often used the manual cleaning, right?

You need a new waist ink absorber,, which can be purchased at any service partner near your home (see brother homepage of your country). When done so you have to open the dcp and to replace the box. At last you have to reset the eeprom:

press menu then start bk-copy then fourtimes arrow-up (quickly after another). machine switches to maintnenace mode. press by help of the arrow-up and after each digit the set key: 8  0 (zero).
Press start bk copy til PURGE64xx appears. Press 2 7 8 3 (Arrow up and set key) and then STOP.
To leave maintnenace press 9 then 9. After machine comes up in a normal stae the error message is disappeared.

Please DO replace the box first before doing the reset. Otherwise you will seriously damage the dcp!

Printer head cleaning

Sometimes a cart doesnt work well because of mal manufacturing. Put in another brandnew black cart and do the cleaning cycle again. Its an advantage to use genuine brother carts! If you dont have any success try this: press menu then start/mono (b/w) then four times arrow up. maintenance should be displayed and the printer beeps. press arrow up til 7 is displayed. press enter. press arrow up til 6 in display. press enter. Display: Cleaning_All. press arrow up til 3 then enter: power_p all. Press start mono. machine starts power cleaning. After maintenance is displayed press arrow up til 0 (zero) then enter then 9 then enter. machine prints print quality sheet. In case there are only a few blocks in black repeat the above procedure. If you doesnt see neither any blocks in bk nor text after the second try be sure that your printhead is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore. This happens due to thirdparty ink which has pigmented ink instead of dye ink. Use only dye ink for brother printers!!!

Not printing too well

Do use genuine brother ink for testing: If you're lucky the filter in front of the nozzles (which is part of the printhead) is not clogged. Do the power cleaning twice: power up. push menu then start mono then four times arrow up. machine will display maintenance. push arrow up several times til 7 is displayed then Enter then arrow up til 6 is displayed. Push Enter. push arrow up til 3 then Enter: P cleaning_all Push start/mono. After machine has finished maintenance will be displayed. push arrow up til 0 (zero) then enter then puh arrow up til 9. machine will print a test sheet. Repeat procedure above if no good result. After three times without success the printhead is clogged due to wrong ink. ...and do use dye-ink only for brother printers (pigmented ink will clog the filter!)
