Question about Denon AVR-1500

1 Answer

During a lightning storm my denon 1500 stopped working; the receiver lights up when plugged in (meaning the red light on the front panel is on) but it wont power up. I have checked the fuses and they appear to be good;so I am thinking there might a protective mode thats on.If its in protective mode is there a way to reset it? Your help would be greatly appreciated!........Dean

Hi,

If your receiver was plugged into the electrical outlet during a power surge / lightening surge, then no doubt the power supply circuit has been affected. Your main fuse is intact and the unit has standby current, but when you turn it on, it is going into a protective mode and shutting down which prevents further damage from occurring. The power supply circuit in your Denon requires a fair degree of technical skill to troubleshoot the defective component(s) as well as the proper equipment and service manual (if one is available).

Unfortunately, there is no RESET option. You could try to disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn it back ON to see if that would solve the problem. But, more often they needs to be send for repair.

The expense to repair should be less than purchasing a new one, but not by much. Depending on where you live, you can purchase a refurbished Denon AVR-1500 for around $160 - $170 w/shipping or new starting around $225 or more. Based on the cost/hour rate and the replacement components, your repair cost could be anywhere from $125 - $200. One thing to consider is the fact that in some cases, when an electronic device has received a power surge from a lighting strike, there may be partial damage or a weakening of other components that may not show up as defective right away and fail after the initial repair.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Denon AVR-3801 lights up,makes rapid clicking noises when amp tries to turn on. Clicking stops but unit doesn't play & sometimes the unit turns off. Occurred after lightning storm. What to do to fix?

Probably damaged by power surge. If you do not have experience diagnosing and repairing electronic circuits as well as having access to schematic diagrams then this is not a repair for you. Failure to replace all damaged components may result in damaging new parts.

How do i stop lightning from getting in my hdmi lines and shocking my tv? 5 tvs went down in one storm

I would recommend getting a surge protector and using that to protect your televisions. This usually will stop something the lightning from killing your tv's.. I have a surge protector and can still use my tv, computer, anything I have plugged in during a storm.

It may be a problem with the DVRs. You can rule that out by connecting a different HDMI TV to one of the DVRs.

Leave the TV off and unplugged for 24 hours then try it. If it still doesnt work you may need to consult an engineer. The TVs power supply board may have blown due to power surge/spike. I recommend getting a surge protector to avoid this happening in future.

Lightning Storm/Affinity Washer

During a lightning storm, a lightning strike could have induced a high voltage surge in your incoming power lines. Left unprotected from these power surges, the weakest link ( normally low voltage electronic controls) are the most susceptable. Just because you had power available at the wall receptacle after a storm doesn't mean that your washer control system wasn't exposed to one of these surges and got damaged. On the contrary, it is extremely likely that the washer took a 'hit' and was damaged.Other devices plugged into the same receptacle may have survived that hit because electricity travels the path of least resistance.. In this case.. that path may have been thru your washer.. My point being is that your washer could have sustained a power surge and was damaged so don't rule that out. Of course, that surge could have taken an internal fuse or other component out too..

Blinking light wont turn on Toshiba TV CE19H15

Yes, it's quite possible that you indeed may have sufferd from a Power Spike, induced by lightning during the storm, esspecially if plugged in during said storm. I have had quite a few customers ova the years with this exact problem. I always advise my clients to unplug ALL devices during a storm, and for ones that simply cannot be unplugged then some sort of Spike/Surge Protection device MUST be used. As a matter of interest, I have written many a report to insurance companies to support a claim for a replacement.
