So you can hook up a microphone or maybe a ipod/recordplayer/ ect ect

Just for clarity, Rulds was correct, but realize that there are 2 different sound sugnal levels. Microphone levels are lower than Line levels and require additional amplification stages. Line level is the typical output from tape players and CD players.
