Turn off the main power, then hold down the Clear/Stop button and continue holding down for a few seconds after turning the power back on. This is the procedure for clearing anything that is stuck in memory and will not process which happens sometimes on these Brother machines.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Teach me how to operate a fax machine and what are the part of a fax machine.

HI there,

Well it depends on your fax machine. If its a new version type, you should be able to simply put in the pages to be faxed, and dial the number and it sends it - and if its a long fax, then you can just leave once the fax machine starts to operate. New faxes also allow your to send and receive color faxes, rather than just black and white - pretty sweet. If its an old one, you will probably have to wait for a dial tone. When it makes a ring sound, manually start the transmission, etc, etc. Also, if people send you a fax its also very hard because they will have to do it manually too (even if they're using a new fax machine model). If you like to know more about then please follow the below link -

Please provide us the model number of your Fax Machine if you need more help or information.........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

My fax goes off periodicall when a call comes in.

It means that your fax machine is "answering" the incoming call before you pick up the handset. Usually, the factory setting on the fax machine picks up after two incoming rings. There are three ways you can address this issue: 1.) You can either change the number of rings to, say, five incoming rings to give you enough time to answer the phone before the fax machine picks up, or 2,) you can find out if your fax machine has a feature that allows for the voice hook "click over" that will allow you to override the fax when you pick up your handset, or 3.) turn your fax machine off until you need to send a fax.

If you want to investigate number 2.), then you'll need your operator's manual.

Good luck.

Our HP Officejet 5600 won't receive faxes.

Hi,
Here is the answer to your question.

Error code 244 can mean any of the following things: :

1. You or the person sending the fax pressed the STOP key , causing the session to stop before completion.

2. The fax machine on the other end determined that there is an incompatibility with your machine and the one you are sending to and stopped the fax session.

To fix this you can try the following things. Try them one at a time, and if they don't work, place them back the way they where before you changed it.
  • Make sure the fax machine you are sending to can accept and use polling.
  • Select a slower "receive" speed.
  • Enable or disable the ECM setting.
Error Code: 232

1. Can mean that a communication failure has happened between the two machines.

2. It may also mean that the user of the FAX machine you are sending to has pressed the STOP key

3. If call waiting is enabled, it may cause this error. Disable call waiting on your phone line, if you have a fax machine connected to it. The click or beep on the line that indicates you have a incoming call, can STOP a fax session.

4. Another cause of this error code is that the power was interrupted to the machine you are attempting to send a fax to.

Things you can do to solve this problem: Try them one at a time, and if they don't work, place them back the way they where before you changed it.

  • Try disableing ECM. However, this may reduce the quality of your faxes.
  • Ask the person you are sending the fax to to set the machine to receive at a slower speed.
  • Try the fax again at a different time, incase it is a problem with the phone line.
  • If you phone lines are old, or there is static on the line it may cause trouble sending a fax.If this is the case you will need to contact your local phone company or whoever is responsible for servicing your phone lines.

Remote fax error means there is something wrong on the receiving end, not with your fax.
It could be that it can't negotiate the handshake with your machine (that static noise it makes when it first connects).
Or it's not set to a receive mode.

Have you tried just calling the remote fax with your phone to see if you can hear that it is in a recieve mode (you'll get the static) or that it's not going to an answering machine by mistake (a common problem)
