Calculator does not go on

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the 2ND key, then repeatedly press the + key and see whether the display lights up. If you go too far, use the 2ND and - keys.

Turn the calculator on. Hold down the "C" key (just above the ON key) and press + to darken the screen. If you go too far, use the C and - keys to lighten the screen.

Adjust the screen contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2nd key, then press and hold the up-arrow key until the numbers darken. If you go too far, repeat the process with the 2nd and down-arrow keys.

Can I do numbers squared on this calculator, and how would I enter this?

The TI-30XA is a scientific calculator with many functions. You can calculate problems with fractions and decimals, as well as solve problems of probability and functions. A scientific calculator computes the number sentence you type in using the order of operations: parentheses first, then roots and exponents, then division and multiplication and, finally, addition and subtraction.
How to Use a TI-30XA
  • Step 1Press the [ON/C] key to turn on the calculator. Press the [OFF] key to turn it off. To use the calculator in solar mode, put the solar panel in the light and then press the [ON/C] key. To turn it off when in solar mode, slide the calculator cover back on and it will automatically shut off.
  • Step 2Replace the batteries by first removing the cover and placing it face down. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unscrew the back panel. Remove the back panel and change the batteries. Screw the back panel back on. Press [OFF] [ON/C] and [ON/C].

My kid's calculator is not working; replaced new batteries including the lithium battery. yet, the calculator is not turning on.

After a battery replacement the screen contrast may become too dark or too light. I suspect that in your case the screen is too light. To darken it
Press [2nd] key and release it.
Press and HOLD [UpArrow] until screen darkens enough.

Calculator will not turn on. I have a texas instrument calculator TI85 that will not start. Any suggestions?

The batteries may be depleted, and they need to be replaced. If abtteries are fresh and the calculator seems toi refuse to turn ON, the screen darkness must be increased before declaring that the calculator does not start. If screen is too light you won`t be able to see that calculator is already ON.

    To increase the contrast.
    1. Press the [2nd] and release it.
    2. Press and HOLD the UpArrow key until you can see something on the screen.
    3. The screen may have about 10 levels of darkness
    Hope it helps.

Won t turn on- NOT the 4 AAA batteries. Could the backup battery affect the main power??

To answer the question you asked. No the backup battery does not affect the main batteries. It is there to keep the memory electrically refreshed when calculator is turned off. You will know that the backup is depleted or almost depleted if the screen displays RAM CLEARED, everytime you turn the calculator ON.

Now to the calculator not turning ON. IF THERE ARE NO HARWARE PROBLEMs with your calculator (of this I cannot judge for I am no prophet) , it may be that the screen is too light and you cannot see what it displays. If that is the case, you can darken it as follows.
    1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
    2. Press [ArrowUp] key and release it.
    3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 in sequence, until screen darkins enough. You may have to repeat the sequence several times.

    Hope it helps.
