Question about Nelson Sprinkler: Traveling Tractor

1 Answer

I need to order two new rotating arms for my Nelson Water Tractor. The arms are aluminum I assume, and are about 3/8" diameter and are slightly bent 4" or so at the end of the arm to allow them to rotate and spin fast when the water is on. Do you have them in stock? What is the cost? Can they ship today? I need them delivered to me by Friday, August 27th.

Nelson Sprinkler Rain Train Traveling Sprinkler will only go backwards , i have the arms going in the right direction...please help

If it's going backwards, and assuming you didn't take it apart and put it together wrong, then the arms aren't going in the right direction. Looking down from the top, my unit should be moving clockwise if it's set up correctly. In any case, switch it so the water pushes the arms in the other direction. the transmission is pretty straightforward - if it's going in the wrong direction then the arms are spinning in the wrong direction.

Hi, loosen the spray arms and rotate them opposite to the way they are laying now so when spinning the arms rotate clockwise. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

My tractor sprinkler was running fine and then suddenly stopped. What should I look for as the problem?

My sprinkler did (something like) this a couple of times (very infrequently) - the arms seemed "seized" (cannot rotate clockwise or counter clockwise) but, I was able to get them moving again by picking up the sprinkler (a couple of inches) by the sprinkler arm T-pipe. Picking it up this way, vertically, seemed to "un-stick" the arms.

Of course, if your sprinkler is very old (12 years?) the gear box may be worn, it would cost about a quarter to a third as much as a brand new sprinkler to replace. You can find the parts you need by reading the question about where to get parts at FixYa.

I have a Nelson traveling tractor for at least 12 years, now. No problem until this week. While traveling tractor was watering yard it turned over in some softer sand - which it has done previously - and...

I think that you need a new gear box. Your unit is 12 years old and the valve inside (the box) probably became separated from the "button" you pull down. Getting a new valve would solve your problem but, it would have to be installed inside the gear box. Since the gears may be worn (after 12 years) - I recommend a new gear box. This would solve your problem and prevent future "worn out" problems. This also saves you assembly of small parts.

My son tipped our neighbors tractor sprinkler over and broke the plastic valve piece that holds the arms. Any way I can get that valve? Has three holes one from the bottom and the two for the sprinker...

You have to buy a arm kit from Nelson or one of their vendors. You get 2 new tubes & the plastic tee that goes in the center of the motor. There around $15.00

Hi,
Check your water pressure... you need to have 40-60 PSI.
