I haven't used this one and I couldn't see anything specific on the Lutron site about how these plates attach, but if there are no visible screws they have to just snap on and snap off. I can't believe they would have any luck selling a product that required special tools to remove the wall plate good luck, Al K

Brake & turn signal lights

  • If neither brake light works, go here.
  • Check all the connections to the signal switch and trailer relay.
  • Turn on the parking lights. Make sure that each light is equally bright (side-to-side). The signal filament is brighter than the parking light filament, so if one light is "extra" bright the bulb may be inserted 180 degrees out in the socket, or the contact plate in the light may be reversed.

To reverse the contact plate for the front parking light with staggered pin bulbs:

Remove the lense and the bulb
Pull back the boot as far as possible. Some boots require that you remove the parking light completely.
Push the wires into the back of the light housing.
Turn the contact plate 180 degrees and engage the tangs as you pull the wires out.

To reverse the contact plate for the rear round parking lights with staggered pin bulbs (You can simply reverse the leads on the rear rectangular lights):
Remove the lense and the bulb
Push the wires into the back of the light housing.
Turn the contact plate 180 degrees and engage the tangs as you pull the wires out.
  • If you don't have brake and signal lights on one side, disconnect the red and yellow (or green) wires from the light. With the parking light switch on, touch the red wire to each connection on the light. One connection should be bright, the other less bright. Connect the red wire to the dimmer connection and the other wire to the brighter connection. More possibilities here.
  • Use only a Signal Stat brand flasher, #180 (it comes with the kit). Some others don't consistently indicate flashing on the dashboard, or may not flash at all.

Using 3 way dimmer, lights don't appear to go to full light

Hi Gene,

When two 3-way switches are used to control a light - and you wish to install a dimmer, you replace only ONE of the switches. If you replace both switches with dimmers, and one dimmer is set to 50%, the light will only be able to get to 50% bright; regardless even if the other switch is set to 100%. The light can only get as bright as the current lowest dimmer position of either switch.

Most modern dimmers are solid state, and should be able to get full power to the lamps. Older dimmers aren't very efficient and work a little differently - but should still do a good job as far as brightness of the lamp. You can run into trouble trying to dim CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) if they are not labeled specifically for use with a dimmer. Even those that are labeled for use with a dimmer have a noticeably short range of dimming when compared to standard tungsten lamps, and tend to have an audible buzzing sound.

If this doesn't answer your question, please provide the wattage, type and number of lamps in the fixture. Your dimmer is rated for up to 600 watts, but may be less if it is in a switchbox with other dimmers or you have broken off portions of the heat shield as directed by the instructions.

The fuse block is located under the right side of the dash. Check the fuse called "INST LPS" fuse # 15, it's the one located in the 5th row across and 3rd one down. If the fuse is good, with the ignition in the on position check for 12 volts at the dimmer switch assembly this is a dark green wire. If you have 12 volts replace the dimmer switch assembly, if not repair the dark green wire. Hope this is helpful to you.

Find your dash light dimmer switch....... usually some kind of a roller/dial type of control.
This can turn your dash lights off and make them nice and bright, well at the end of the "bright" side if you just keep turning it will turn on your interior light.

I was reading one of the Lutron Maestro accessory dimmer manuals yesterday, and it showed how that little light was also a fuse that you could remove to turn off power. I didn't read exactly why it has that fuse.

You might check your manual to see if that is the same feature on your accessory dimmer.

Trying to uninstall a light switch. The two black wires are covered by a gold color metal plate where the screws go in and the wires will not pull out of switch. Can't seem to remove the metal plates. ????

Of course you have the power turned off, right? Assuming you don't plan to re-use the old switch, just cut the wires. Your wires are probably plenty long enough if your cut them as close to the switch as possible. Then you can strip then new ends of the wires. It's easiest to strip the wires using a stripping tool, but it's not necessary to go buy one, as you can do this easily enough with a knife. Good luck, and thanks for using FixYa. Al Kupchella

How to dissable a pre-existing dimmer switch

You don't want to disassemble the dimmer ... you want to remove the dimmer and replace it with a toggle switch

Get a switch at the hardware store or at the big box place. You only need a standard wall toggle switch - color to suit your taste ... gray, ivory, white, brown or red usually. Expect to pay less than $3.00 and maybe as little as 75 cents.

It is simple ...

turn off the power to the light at your circuit panel.

Remove the knob (pull it off) - remove two little screws that hold the cover plate on. There may be a nut under the knob ... remove it (leftie - loosie -- righty - tighty)

Remove the two screws that hold the dimmer in the box,

Pull the dimmer out.

loosen the screws that hold the wires onto the dimmer ... you may have wire nuts holding the wires together. if so, remove them

set the dimmer aside.

you should be working with two black wires in the wall. What ever is attached to the dimmer is the wires you will be using. It does not make any difference which colored wire goes on which brass screw - more below - except the green ... the green goes only on the ground screw.

put one wire from the wall on one brass screw

put the other wire from the wall on the other brass screw.

put the bare wire (or green wire) on the green screw on the switch frame.

arrange the wires behind the switch and screw two screws into the wall box ... make sure the switch is straight.

put the cover on -- two screws ...

turn on the power.

If you have more question, attach to this post.

Thanks for using

Overhead lights

check you dimmer switch. the dimmer switch is what controlles the interior dash lights and dome lights. you might have acidently hit the switch and it may have pushed it up from the position it was at. if you push the switch all they up than you interior light will come one even if you shut the car off and pull the key. turn the dimmer switch all the way down and see if it still does it. if not than wait until it gets dark and go outside and turn the swich up until ou can see the dash lights. but remember if you turn it up to far the interior lights will come on.
