You'll need a cable modem to go along with. Your WRT54G2 is just a wireless broadband router. It will work nicely with broadband but you'll need a modem to go along with it. I'm surprised the cable cable company isn't supplying one for you. If this answers your question please rate this as fixed. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be glad to help you fyrther. Thanks.

Yes, it will do the job. To be certain, however, please contact the cable company and tell them what model and brand you have, just to double check.
Hope that helps!

The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

Yaa friend you need not buy any thing. It should work.

    Thanks

    Iqbal

Can Linksys WRT54G2 connect between HP desktop with XP and Compac laptop with microsoft 7. Router's program is insalled on desktop.

yes.. do the following:

Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

then restart both computers.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

Thanks, Joe

Are you trying to install the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
MAke sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

I bought WRT54G2 router , but could not detect the broadband connection ,,,

do you have the broadband modem plugged into the wan on the router and is the cable you are using good. and also check to see if your internet is working. you should be able to connect your computer to the modem and get internet. if your broad band requires you to log on the modem before you get out you will need to connect directly to your router and set it up per the instructions.

Internet connection problems

Sorry but that seems to be a pretty convoluted explanation. Here is how it should go.
Vonage unit connected to phone line(s) and cable modem. Linksys connected to Vonage box. Computers connected to Linksys.
Ethernet has a length limitation of about 300 feet before you need another switch (hub) or a repeater. Does your wire length exceed this?

Setup linksys wrt54g2 broadband router with prolink h9200 modem

You probably will need to make some configuration changes in the Linksys router, or in your computer, or both. Your are correct that you connect the Linksys WAN connection to the LAN connection of the modem. If your connection type is PPPOE, you will need to set that up in the Linksys with the username and password provided by your ISP, so the modem will allow you to login and connect to the internet. If that is how you were connecting to the modem with your computer, you will need to configure a new LAN connection in the computer in order to connect to the Linksys. You can then configure the Linksys through your web browser to connect to the modem.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

Trying to install Linksys wrt54gx2 srx200 on my vista computer

who is your broadband provider? Is this cable or DSL connection? Setting up the router is done via http://192.168.1.1. Leave username blank, password is admin. If you have Cable ISP, then make sure you have "Automatic Configuration-DHCP" selected and MAC address Clone is enabled on Setup > MAC address Clone (click Clone, and Apply). If it's a DSL connection and your broadband provider gave you a username and password, select "PPPoE" for Internet Connecton Type, and enter in your DSL username and password. Next verify if your modem is communicating with the router by going to the Status page and by verifying that you have an Internet IP address. If none, wait for a few minutes and power cycle your modem and router.

No and why doesn't your internet provider... provide a cable modem?? Did you just ask them to enable broadband internet service? So now you'll have to provide your own cable modem.

If what you say is correct you need a cable modem like a motorola surfboard from BestBuy.... then the cable modem plugs into your Linksys router and your PC's plug into the linksys router also.
