3rd Generation iPod Touch

The third generation of iPods includes iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch and iPod Nano. Installing the latest software for each of these models involves the same process and requires the latest version of iTunes to perform. The 3rd generation iPod Touch uses the same iOS 4 operating system that the iPhone uses. You can download the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website for free. With iTunes, you can install the most up-to-date software on any 3rd generation iPod for free as well.

Download iTunes from the Apple website or check for the latest update by clicking "Help" at the top of the screen. Scroll down to "Check for Updates." Open iTunes either by clicking its icon in the Start menu or by connecting your iPod to your computer with the sync cable. This cable looks like an ordinary USB cable with a special attachment on the end that plug into your iPod. If you have lost your original cable, you will need to purchase a replacement. Any type of iPod sync cable will work, as long as it is compatible with your 3rd generation model. Wait for iTunes to update or restore your iPod automatically. Enter your iPod's name in the top field when you are prompted. Check the box next to "Automatically update songs on my iPod" if you want iTunes to sync your hard drive's playlist with your iPod every time you plug in your iPod. Select your iPod from the "Source" list on the left side of the screen if you need to update your software. This will take you to a screen with links to iPod software updates. Click on "Check for Update" to look for the most up-to-date iPod software, and click "Download" and "Install" to install the software. Do not unplug your iPod during installation. Check the box next to "Automatically copy photos to my iPod" to sync a photo folder on your hard drive with an iPod with a color screen. Choose the folder you wish to sync with your iPod from the "Synchronize photos from" menu. Click "Next" to move to the final screen. Click "Register My iPod" to send your personal information to Apple and then click "Finish" to end the installation. Your iPod will appear in the "Source" list on the left side of the screen. 4th generation ipod touch is unresponsive

Hello Jak,

Start by plugging your iPod into your computer and check if there are any updates through iTunes.

Mac products are notorious for bugging out when there is a software update and the device is not updated.

Also, plugging the iPod into itunes also helps resolve most software related issues

Thanks,

Pat

Help please tell how to exit recovery mode

How to Fix an iPod Touch Stuck in Recovery Mode With a Free Program
An iPod Touch's "Recovery Mode" is for alleviating major operating system issues. Recovery Mode rolls back your iPod's operating system, stripping problematic updates and downloads from the unit. The goal of this total system recovery is to revert the iPod to a stable, usable version. Before you use Recovery Mode, exhaust other troubleshooting methods. In some cases, Recovery Mode is triggered automatically after a failed system update or system restore. When it goes into Recovery Mode automatically, you cannot use your iPod until you complete the recovery process. You can get your iPod Touch out of Recovery Mode using Apple's free iTunes software.

Things You'll Need
-Apple iTunes-USB cable

Instructions
1 Turn on your computer and open iTunes. If you are prompted to download any new iTunes updates, install the updates before proceeding.
2 Plug an iPod USB cable into your computer. Do not plug the other end into your iPod Touch yet.
3 Turn off your iPod Touch. If the iPod Touch is already shut down, skip this step.
4 Press and hold the Home button on your iPod Touch, and plug the other end of the USB cable into your iPod Touch.
5 Release the Home button after you see a white USB icon and the iTunes logo appear on your iPod Touch's screen. At this time, a pop-up should appear on your computer screen, explaining that the software has detected an iPod in Recovery Mode.
6 Click "OK."
7 Click on the iPod Touch from underneath the "Devices" heading on the left-hand side of your screen.
8 Click on the "Home" tab, and then click "Restore." Once it's restored, your iPod Touch goes out of Recovery Mode and you can start using it again. The restoration process takes a few minutes. Do not disconnect your iPod Touch until a prompt appears, letting you know the system restored successfully.

Ipod touch turns on but it doesnt give me option to type in code

Hi there,

I would recommend checking for updates for the software on your Ipod touch as if the software on the Ipod is out of date, features may begin to stop working.

To complete this you can connect your Ipod to your Mac or PC and follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes. It will automatically offer you to install new updates to software.

Screen shows usb and Itunes but computer doesnt recognize ipod.

1. Verify if your pc passes the system requirements.
(a) usb 2.0 port
(b) You are running the latest version of itunes

2. Recharge your iPod Touch

3. Check USB connections. Use a USB port that is built into the computer instead of using an external usb hub.

4. Restart iPod Touch. Do the following steps: To restart iPod touch, first turn iPod touch off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPod touch will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPod touch on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPod touch not responding? To reset iPod touch, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

5. Restart your computer then reconnect your iPod Touch

6. Try reinstalling iTunes. And if this doesn't resolve the issue, you can also try uninstalling iTunes then reinstalling the latest version.

7. Check if there are third-party software that might prevent iTunes from recognizing your iPod touch. Such software may be security software, anti-virus software and webcam drivers. What you can do is adjust the software settings or you may also temporarily disable the software.

If you find this helpful, kindly click the thumbs up button. Thanks! :)

I forgot the password to my ipod touch

There is only one way, you must restore the ipod which wipes out everything if you forgot it.

Updating and Restoring iPod touch Software
You can use iTunes to update or reinstall iPod touch software, restore default settings, and delete all data on iPod touch.
• If you update, the iPod touch software is updated. Your downloaded applications, settings, and data aren’t affected.
Note: In some cases, an update may also include restoring iPod touch.
• If you restore, the latest version of iPod touch software is reinstalled, settings are restored to their defaults, and data stored on iPod touch is deleted, including downloaded applications, songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. If you’ve backed up iPod touch with iTunes on your computer, you can restore data from the backup at the end of the restore process.
Deleted data is no longer accessible via the iPod touch user interface, but isn’t erased from your iPod touch. For information about erasing all content and settings, see “Resetting iPod touch” on page 122.
Update or restore iPod touch:
1 Make sure you have an Internet connection and have installed the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.
2 Connect iPod touch to your computer.
3 Select iPod touch in the iTunes sidebar and click the Summary tab.
4 Click “Check for Update.” iTunes tells you if there’s a newer version of the iPod touch software available.
5 Click Update to install the latest version of the software. Or click Restore to restore. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process.
