Question about ViewSonic Computers & Internet

2 Answers

When trying to turn the unit on, the green power light flashes on and off, there's no picture. After several times of pressing and re-pressing the switch, and holding it down for varying amounts of time, I finally hit the right combo and the monitor comes on. Then it's fine, it stays on. Do as Louie suggested and then look for bad caps first: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VX924/

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Cnauroth, I would suspect this 4 to 5 year old VX922 has developed an intermittant "thermal cycled" hairline thin fracture of a solder joint somewhere on the "switch-mode-power-supply/Cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp ballast circuit board". You or qualified electronics technician will need to inspect unit with large magnifying glass or 5x to 10x inspection microscope to locate problem and resolder it. Also inspect unit for failed CapXon brand electrolytic filter capacitors that may be swollen, bulging, leaking from their top of can vent seals!!! Lots of pic's on web if you don't have a clue as to what all this means. If not into DIY refurbishment, then just trade-in for new wide-screen. In any case let us know what you will do. Read my fixya profile for more info and links. DIY repair about $10 Contract out work $50-$70. Do some reading first. Follow links. Then return to fixya to rate this response and leave comment or testimonial if this helps you out. 12fixlouie

Unplug if you have not done so BOTH units from power for several minutes (any cable or satellite box also connected.

wait several minutes and restore power to all units which may allow them to reboot.

Blinking green power light & shut down

There are (4) 1000uf @35V capacitors all together on the DM board that need to be replaced some models have 1000uf @ 16V but they are all right beside each other and all rated at 1000ufs the voltages will be stamped on the capacitor along with the uf ratings.
