The problem is my Mac Pro will not give me the same options as Microsoft does when I switch to XP on my VMware Fusion i can access those options but for some reason the printer will not respond and the print sent gets hung in the printer off line and when I make it a default printer and clear the print cue it still does not work? I am trying to reinstall the printer from original CD to see if it will work but it takes forever to get all the updates for it to start. My Mac CD keeps going to my PC section of the Mac and will not allow it to start an instal I think it is due to the fact i have sharing CD DVD open on PC side? Please help to sort it out. Also every time i try to do an alinement the paper comes out blank and error message says please use HP plain paper it's not working.

There is some mal-functional issue with your printer. If the print-out comes out "Green" or something similar with weird colors instead of black (when you copy black), that means the black cartridge is not printing. Suppose, when you copy and document with black text without Black cartridge installed, you'll get the same result.

There's another settings on Hp Printing Preferences page, please check it... when you enter the "Print Preference", you'll see color settings on the "color" tab. From there, make sure that the "High Quality" is not set in the "Print in Greyscale" set it as "Black Ink Only" (Open the Printers and Faxes folder, right click the printer's icon to open the "Printing Preference"). Even if you give black print command, you'll get the high quality print outs unless you change the settings to in the "Print in Greyscale" to "Black Ink Only".

First let's try with this page.. Right-click somewhere on this page, select "Print" and on the "Print" window, click "Preference" again click "Color" and click "Print in Greyscale" the select "Black Only", then "Ok" and click "Apply" then "Print" and check what's the result of the print. If it's normal as black prints, then your problem is fixed, means you have to check the printing preference before you give another print job command.

If your black cartridge or black cartridge's print head is not giving out ink, then you'll get no prints on the paper.

Let me know after you are done. If i combine two or more troubleshooting measure, you may get confused.

Awaiting.

Thanks.

Hi.

If the printer had been sitting or not printing in colors for some times, weeks or months, then the ink in the print heads orifices had dried. In that case the print head must be removed and soaked in isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution for at least 24 hours to clean up.
In some case the print head assembly must be replaced.

If the printer was printing fine right before replacement, then there is instead something wrong in cartridge or in installation procedure.
In that case ensure that the plastic strip on cartridge orifice had been removed and that procedure had been performed properly.
If that does not sort out the problem, then the non working cartridges may be defective.

Also the printer may malfunction if you are using refillable cartridge. Use of non original cartridges may also be the cause of the problem.

If you did print head cleaning from software, that does not necessarily mean that the printhead is not blocked. The procedure is largely ineffective against clogged printheads.

By the way the problem is either print head or cartridges, test different (but new and original) cartridges, if that makes no difference, printhead must be removed and soaked in solution for a couple of days, or replaced.

Regards.

Ginko.

Re:"The printer was working fine up to a few days ago and even thou i use replacement heads with microchips they were removed from the printer and tested on another machine and work fine. "

Then try cleaning the sensor inside the ink carriage. About cartridge " removed from the printer and tested on another machine and work fine" That is not a definitive test. YOU NEED TO TEST ORIGINAL ONES ON THIS MACHINE. That is what we do in the shop (I am HP Compaq certified, I had been working in a repair point for about five years).

    By the way, procedure is

Replacing cartridge IN THIS printer to test original ones-->no luck--->Clean carriage sensor and print heads/replace print head---No luck--->Quite weird, there is no error message, Main board is fried!- That is not your case. Any other problem causing this would have caused ink system failure.

Replace inks with good ones or clean the printhead first.

Now give me the usual bad feedback and ask to other Fixya experts for a better answer.

    Take care.

    Ginko.

To start, sorry about the attitude, that is result of years spent saying users not to buy refilled and refurbished inks each time they come up paying $80 to fix a weird problem caused by cartridges.

Regarding the print problem, if print is fading only on regular printings, then it may be definition settings, as said in the first post open printer properties and check settings, ensure you are not in fast print/economy mode, try increasing resolution.

The printer may print fine with higher resolution (like photo) and print incorrectly in regular resolution in both printhead and cartridge fault situations.
If printer does not go in test print at regular resolution(normal print quality in printer properties), then there is a problem. If cartridges are new and original, then problem is printead. If cartridges are not original the problem can be the chip. If cartridges are refilled/refurbished they can even block the printhead with a block of hardened ink.

To access printer properties you can either go to control panel , find the printer in installed printer, click right mouse button and choose properties. Alternatively open a Word page or open Internet Explorer with a web page, choose print from File menu (do not simply click the button), and click the Properties button in the print dialog box.
That will set printer control software that determines most settings.

Other reset is done disconnecting power cable, this will reset printer internal circuits to default.

I have been printing photos and they have come out beautiful. Suddenly the colors are all muted, and brown hair has a green tint. My printer is an HP 6180. Nothing has changed - same paper, ink...

It sounds like one of the colors is not printing correctly. I would suggest , opening your hp solutions center programs and under tools you will find an option to clean the print heads. Follow the procedure to cleans the print heads, after cleaning open control panel on the computer and depending on the operating system click on "printers" (XP) or "devices and printers"(vista win7) right click on your printer( hit your right mouse button) select " printer properties" click on print test page. This page will print out showing each of the colors separately. You should see black, blue, pink and yellow. If one of these colors is missing or muted you will now which color is cratinging the issue. And at that time I would try changing the corresponding ink cartridge. Hopefully the print head cleaning will resolve your issue

Hp officejet 6500 e709n print quality poor even after replacing print head

For severe print quality/missing color issues there could be an air bubble/air gaps in the printer ink lines or a portion of the PRINTHEAD is dry, so you should first perform a Clean PrintHead procedure from your printer control panel.
NOTE: If one or more the colors were previously dry fired during printing (i.e. if you continued printing using only a few colors to one, air may have been accidently ingested into the ink lines between the cartridge(s) and PRINTHEAD. To recover from this problem, you may have to run the Clean Printhead procedure 2-3 times.
If a problem persists then it is suggested to review the steps outlined on the following HP 920 support pages, including printhead removal/printer cleaning and service station cleaning. It is suggested you refer to printer manufacturer instructions first as the Inkjet411 procedures are provided for general guidance purposes only. A dirty service station can cause poor image quality and/or ink cross-contamination between different colors:
http://inkjet411.retailinkjet.com/?page_id=1495
If the problem still cannot be corrected, then the PRINTHEAD may be dry and may need to be flushed (i.e. with warm water as it could have dried out, but this is a function of how much you print). Remove and soak in hot water for 5 minutes...thoroughly dry printhead prior to re-installing. Retest.
For more information please visit:
http://inkjet411.retailinkjet.com/?page_id=856
Worst case scenario the PRINTHEAD may simply be electrically damaged or at end-of-life (typically fails between 3,000 and 5,000 printed pages) and may require replacement, usually accompanied by error messages like Incompatible Printhead or Ink Delivery/System Failure. NOTE: The PRINTHEAD will eventually fail in time. For more information on the how the PRINTHEAD works, watch the video here: http://inkjet411.retailinkjet.com/?page_id=1983
To verify Printhead performance, run the Tap 41 diagnostic test, (Pen Status: Pen OK).....for printer model instructions please visit:

Black ink will not print but colors do

Most likely culprit is a dried up ink within the nozzles themselves. The best things for getting rid of dried ink in the nozzles is to use either a standard bathroom cleaner or rubbing alcohol. With the printer on open the door as if you were replacing ink. With the ink cartidges visable, unplug the printer so they stay put. Remove the cartridge and spray the cleaner in the where the ink is taking from the cartridge and clean it with whatever works. I really really good trick is if you have an old cartridge you can use a syringe to fill up the empty cartridge with your cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol. Insert the cartridge and run some test prints. This will for sure run the cleaner through the nozzle and hopefully dissolve the blockage.

HP C6180. I think the Black color print head is clogged. How to remove the print head for cleaning?

The print heads in the C6180 are not removable.
I would suggest getting an 02 XL black cartridge and an 02 Photo Value Pack (because it includes all colors plus photo paper for much less than the cost of the color cartridges separately ... and YES the are FULL 02 cartridges!) and run several head cleaning sessions from the setup menu.
It should do a deeper cleaning each successive time you run the same cleaning, so run 3 black head cleanings in a row (3 is the deepest).
Then disconnect the power from the unit, press and hold the # and the 6.
While holding the keys, reconnect the power to the unit until you see a reset message or until the unit turns itself back off.
If the unit turns itself back off, release the keys and press the power button.
The unit will gyrate and click and whir for quite some time and eventually settle in to a ready state.
At this point, you should be out some ink, but the unit should be printing again.
If it isn't, there really isn't anything you can do.
You can call HP at 1-800-HP-Invent and ask about their trade-in/trade up options for this model.
You can get really good deals on current model printers by trading in your defective unit !
Usually you will have a choice of about 3 replacement trade in (if the C6180 can be replaced with another C6180) / trade up (equal or better models) for your specific printer.

How do i know which print heads need replacing?

The HP diagnostic error codes will tell you what needs replacing. Run a self test and print test to see the results. This should identify any harware problems.

C6180 failed alignment test, will not print color properly

All colors need to be present to pass alignment. Usually what I see is the yellow is empty. You can blot the print cartridge on a damp paper towel to verify the inks are working and this also cleans the head.

H/P C6180 black not printing

Had the same problem for weeks. Had to go thru all three levels of print head cleaning in the HP Toolbox menu to get black to work again. The head cleaning option on the printer itself was insufficient. Unless you've already gone thru all three cleaning levels this may be worth a try.

I walked thru the steps via the HP website FAQs for the 6180. Basically: Open the HP Solution Center, select Settings->Print Settings->Printer Toolbox, then click Clean the Printheads. After the first cleaning you'll be asked if the test page printed OK (mine didn't), click the Intermediate Cleaning box. You'll be asked again if the test page printed OK (mine did, but an independent MSWord print test was still streaky), click the clean again (sorry, don't remember what this one was called) for the third and deepest clean.

This last one worked for me, now it's back to normal printing. From what the HP website says I'm guessing that my black print head was dried up. That's a reasonable explanation for my situation, we had let the black sit dormant for a couple of weeks after the black cartridge ran out before we tried to install a replacement.

Hope this helps, sure was frustrating for me. Good luck.

Clean the copper contacts of the ink cartridge and the printhead wih the cotton swab and then try. Moreover in the printer there is an option to clean the printheads and ink carts. Later ty to print the h/w test page from the printer, if it prints fine then in the computer, righth click the printer icon and left click properties,in the color settings check if there is an option print in grayscale ... if thatoption is checked then uncheck the option.. and then print the test apge from the computer. If while priting the h/w test page it does not print in color then either upgrade the printer or replace the printer as the contacts of the printer ink carts slot are corrupted.
