This is due to a power supply issue, Check all the power supply solder joints, And try a reset by unhooking the power and holding the power button down for 30 seconds, This allows for a total discharge of the unit, Then plug it back in and see how that worked...

Press power on... screen flashes on (blink), then goes blank and power button flashes

dpelrod727, Yes, the "switch-mode-power-supply" is in "partial" or "full" SHUTDOWN mode. Reconnect E172FP to a fully booted KNOWN good PC with the win-desktop as the displayed screen. Check with flashlight to see if your LCD panel is both BLACK and BLANK, or just BLACK by holding a bright flashlight 1" from screen at different angles even though the screen appears to be blank. If very faint image of desktop is seen then your SMPS is still half alive. Here are your options in either case. 1. Trade in for new. 2. Try Dell for a cash+old swapout for a Refurbed unit. 3. Check out www.ccl-la.com/badcaps, www.badcaps.net, www.lcdparts.net, and YOUTUBE long video clips dealing with LCD monitor disassembly and LCD repair. could be helpful in making decision on what to do. I'm 12fixlouie If this was helpful rate on fixya.

Monitor displays desktop for a short while

this kind of trouble is very common to all LCD monitors. your inverter is shutting down. please check all capacitors at the power supply some are badged or blown on top due to hot pressure inside.

its a bad solder/heat problem with the power board you need to repalce eaither the board or parts on the board the parts on the board are:

Q743 - FU9024N
Q741 - FU9024N
Q759 - 2SC5707
Q739 - 2SC5707
Q760 - 2SC5707
Q740 - 2SC5707

and part PF751 the black fuse - 3A 125V

i don't promise that this will fix it but its worth a shot

Dell E152FPc Monitor powers up, and screen goes blank in 5-10 sec

ok every one there is a fix the are 4 transistor 2sc5707 and 2 transistorfu9024n and i cap 16v1000uf
if you replace these your problem will be fix for a while but to it better then dell replace the 2sc57o07 with radio shack tip3055 they are 15 amp trans instead of the low 8 amp dell uses they fail because the amps at the test for the transistor is more than 8amps all the correct parts are sold in a kit on ebay look up the 2sc5707 but i recommend upgrading to the tip3055 transistors they are a bigger transistor but you can lay them down and they work great. the capicator can be found at radio 35v1000uf is a good replacment make you monitor better because the new parts are stronger then the originals so no more failures after.

Dell E172FP, monitor blinks then goes blank or black

This is a known problem of the Invertor board. If you are technically able you can open the monitor and resolder transistors 2sc5707 as also all pins of 4 yellow invertor transistors that you can see near the backlight connectors.

This is one soution, many more on the net.

You got parts to fix inside the monitor. Inverter problems. The internet is full of this problem. Some say that even if you replace the bad parts, mostly 2sc5707 transistors, you must find out why they are blowing. Many have replaced the parts only to find out that in a couple hours, the parts are bad again. Solutions range from solder joints, transformers, and other transistors.

Good luck, I'm fixing one as soon as the parts arrive.

Dell Blinking Power Light

Just wanted to say Thank You for the info on this site. I had the same problem as previously posted. When powered up, the monitor showed a fast flash of the desktop and then went black, with the power indicator flashing green. I read the posts, purchased the capacitors and the 4 - 2sc5707 transistors through ebay. I ordered them on the 6th and rec'd them today. I only had one bad capacitor and one transistor that checked bad, but I ordered 5 caps and 4 transistors. When ordering the caps be careful of the height of the caps. I found this to be a problem because I ordered the 50v, 105 degree Panasonic caps that didn't fit with the enclosure attached, so I used the 4 good caps removed previously and replaced the bad one with a 470uf, 50v. 85 degree cap from Rubycon I found among my spare parts. Installed the parts and the monitor is working properly (for the last two hours) so I'm happy for as long as the repair lasts. Thanks again for the info.
