Bad thermostat

You describe the thermostat as being in the back of the oven -- can you give me any more specifics about where it is and what it looks like and how to deal with one that is acting up? I'm ready to call a repair person, but they can't come out until JUNE!!! I would love to take care of this myself if we can...thanks!
